I'm seeing a good deal more detail in the shots on the right. Is anyone else seeing that as well?

You have the added green light, removal or change of color filter, smoke removed between soldiers vs older version (could just be the moment captured). Otherwise they are identical!

post processing effects has been tweak, some lighting has been added, the guy with the bandana face is much more detail. Its like GG said before, the preview build still need alot of tweaking.

Actually textures are noticeably sharper from the new build, especially in the 1st and last shots.

On the first image it looks like the darker colors hide the shape though I notice they added small lights to the station textures? In contrary the [strike]darker[/strike] warmer colors shows the cloud textures detail shape better, or more pronounced.

On the last set the man is in the shades vs non shade. He still got the forehad wrinkles though.

A change of color tone will not cause such a drastic change in texture sharpness I believe. How do you know those stations are just textures? It wouldn't make sense to add those extra lights now if they're 2d planes since they could've baked the lights in. Judging from what the game has shown so far there's no reason to reject the idea that those are 3d models.

Try this on for size :)

Mod : Links removed as AFAICS it's a copy of the IGN subscription content. If not, and they're public domain, you can put them back up.

CRAZY-looking game, still amazed how they managed to pull this off, but the person who was playing was really unskilled.

Indeed. It almost pains me seeing these videos played by 'professional reviewers'. They seem to have no instincts for the game. I can see where I personally would be using the iron sights, shooting from the hip, using the melee, arcing grenades... and they just seem to be doing it all randomly with no thought to what the actual 'battle' situation is.

From my experience with the beta I know that the iron sights is very intuitive to use. I dunno. Its like seeing someone run through CoD4 without using the iron sights or the cover effectively..

After watching the IGN video, I think they toned down some of the motion blur as the picture seems clearer than it was in the preview code.

They also have a lot more blood when NPCs get shot as well. :devilish:

I noticed the reduced Motion blur but not the extra blood. I think also during the opening cinematic when the other dropship gets hit and spiral downwards, i think the flames/smoke/trails are different.....seems to be more spluttering/misfiring flames/smoke etc etc..........though would need a direct vid comparision.

The explosion of the lightning towers is pretty astounding! It's the kind of explosion you'd see movies attempt, didn't expect GG to make that much effort.

The explosions and smoke trails of the Intruder ship indeed look different, they're more flamey and thicker from what I can tell. Also the Blood Meridian level looked brighter now as if they toned the post processing to suit a more dusky setting. The Arc tower explosion looked so much better now with tons of smoke and fire, and the lightning was just too real. Nice.

There are subtle but distinctive differences between the preview code and review code. Some of them cant be explained away by colour filters and capture equipment. ;)

See the following shots for comparison;

...reduced aliasing, a bit more texture detail, additional filter and added specularity.

edit:
the voice acting in the landing portion is hideous shit. Nowhere near as good as it was in the E3 07 build. Not only has the dialogue and banter changed for the worse, the quality of the VA has also taken a hit. Who at GG thought that was a good idea. I dont care for Cpt. Narville's new VA either, he sounded more naturalistic in the E3 07 build.
Since E3 07, Blood Meridian's iq has seen significant improvement, but the actual presentation and flow of the landing sequence seems awkward and forced now because of the bad dialogue and VA.
I know it seems silly, but frankly I'm a little annoyed about the changes that have been made.

Actually the new video shows more aliasing (wires etc) but less blur.Unless the video has been sharpened in the video editor.

Textures look almost exactly the same minus capture bluriness or that they reduced the blur amount in the game. There is some tiny art change though in the top-left corner! ^^

Dont know what the specularity comment is based on.. atleast on those shots.

Also there is some amount lack of shadows for stuff and the framerate taking dips on several parts (unless his video encoding is borked or capturing). Dont know if it was the same for shadows in the previous builds.

Well, there is less specular aliasing on the edges of the weapon or they may have just fixed the mapping. The polygon edge aliasing in the two shots are the same though... The cable in the lower right sees no change whatsoever.

The biggest difference is really the black level. Looks a classic case of black crush, which may have an effect on how edges are perceived before and after.
