Josh Robinson's blog on PS3/XBOX360

I think it's a good article (although it is not really a review) that serves its purposes.

The key points I got from it are:

(i) Game from SOE will be delayed (or will look bland on launch)

(ii) Since it is near impossible to know and keep track of everything under development on PS3 across 3 continents, so artist is telling us what he knows . The "only Live demo" comment was qualified with "To my knowledge".

(iii) From an artist point of view, Sony dev kits works like PC dev kits because his team develop their game like a PC game.

(iv) His circle of developer friends feel that XBox360 is better because they can do more with it (It's a function of the CPU architecture and the developer's capability). Not sure if given more time or another developer, whether Cell is "better".

(v) Timeframe. May launch is possible. Oct launch is reasonable (from his point of view).

Good way to attract traffic though
Regarding NDA, he might have chosen to become a professional fighter with a gaming site hobby afterall. :D

Yea, that is one of the many thoughts that went through my head.

Whatever the case, I'm anxious for the feb PS event, if only to stop all this insanity that has been spreading around for the last few months.

Is there a definite date yet on this PS event?

Was wondering that as well, actually. I think its early feb? Not sure.

Supposed to be in February. Somone also stated that alot of NDAs are supposed to be expiring around the end of Feb (not sure if thats true). With that he also stated that alot of companies will be showcasing alot of their Next Gen games on the PS3.

Yes.
Being unemployed won't be his biggest problem in the days to come, though.

I doubt this would cause him any serious problems. There is no hidden info divulged here. He didn't disclose anything, which is sort of a requirement for firing someone over an NDA, much less suing them.

He may or may not be on good terms with his boss. He may or may not be on his way out. Either way, I see nothing here that could actually get him in any trouble over on a legal sense, it's all opinion and very vague 2nd hand info, and nothing at all technical.

Um, is there actually NOT an official playstation event yet scheduled by Sony for February? I had assumed this was actually official the way everyone has been talking about it. Can someone confirm?

If we are going to write off everything this guy says because of his claim that TO THE BEST OF HIS KNOWLEDGE no other demos ran on PS3 hardware, shouldn't we also discount every comment Mark Rein made about how great the PS3 is for the same reason?

Or do we only ignore everything someone says about the PS3 when it's bad?

See now you are getting crazy with your thoughts. I don't think anybody here is discounting everything he has said. Actually the most people here believe that his game might not look next-gen due to it being a MMORPG.

Again nobody is discounting everything he said.

This seems to contradict what DeanA wrote about things like Alfred Molina demo?
Yeah.. he's hopelessly incorrect with that. Would be interesting to know if SOE employees have the same NDAs as the rest of us.. if they do, then.. well.. you know the rest.

Hasn't it been in development for close to 3 years now? And we don't know either way if it is a launch game or not. This guy is saying the PS3 games are looking like PC games without using blah, blah, blah.

You just contridicted yourself there.

If the game has been in development for 3 years, what has it been developed on? For 2-2.5 years it was a PC game, right? A PC game ported over to the PS3.

Don't we usually call this FUD? ;)

Call me crazy, but that seems to discount everything he said.

There are more examples if you would spend a moment to go back and read the thread.

I didn't know SOE were working on a PS3 launch title before...that disclosure alone could/would be crossing the line.

Kutaragi or someone mentioned recently that they're bringing SOE in for the network side of things, but not sure if there's been any mention of a specific SOE title or not. At some other point though (months ago) it was brought up that some SOE titles were going to come over, with possibly the DC Comics MMORPG launching on both platforms.

I'd like to assume he *hasn't* broken his NDA, but we'd probably find out if he has.

True, but this is still new information that could constitute a NDA breach.

I think the theory that he may be on his way out as is seems plausible (although NDAs don't just expire when you leave a company AFAIK..). I doubt his colleagues, people he'd otherwise be working with day in, day out, would appreciate his comments. Perhaps he ain't worried about having to face them.

Well at one point in time almost every game being made for next-gen system was probably on some sort of PC machine. I wouldn't call Heavenly Sword a PC port.:???:

Read xbd's talking points. That's where the FUD comes in at.

Hey hey hey, don't point to my talking points like I'm taking sides here. :) (I've been defending the guy throughout the majority of the thread)

That was for people to go use on other forums where they feel 'embattled' by the 'terror' that is this article. :p

Of course they do, the thing is because of this "genius" all the poor guys at SOE are in the middle of the shitstorm now.
Which mean they probably have new (read more restrictive) NDAs and rules coming their ways. Not to mention some head chopping, here and there.

Let's just hope everything get back to normal quickly without any too constraining changes for them....

And to me the sad thing is I thought their demo looked pretty good. Graphically it wasn't the best out of the bunch, but that wasn't the point of the demo. The point was to show how a game could have natural life in it that has never been seen before.

Having plants grow from the ground and leaves to grow on trees in real-time. Everything seemed to grow naturally. That in itself makes his demo great to me. Now people will probably down talk their game's graphics regardless of what it looks like.

Honestly, has the power of the wink entirely vanished? Do we have a 'tongue in cheek comment' smiley that I do not know about? Read my follow up post please :)
