Image Quality and Framebuffer Analysis for Available/release build Games *Read the first post*

there supposedly a patch to resolve some of the issues plaguing the xbox version also its not really a fair comparison either. the ps3 version is installed so it is streaming off hdd, xbox version with optional install will most likely have similar streaming performance

honestly tho ms should allow developers to detect hdd and suggest an install especially for heavy streaming games like this.

I wouldn't call it unfair, though... I mean, it's standard procedure in these days. Both games, out of the box... And since every PS3 does have an HDD, why not use it? Though I do prefer the way Uncharted 2 and similar do it (on the fly caching or whatever you want to call it).

That was not the case with Homefront and Enslaved (but I'm not sure about this game).

i worded it kinda ambiguously i should just say improved. the out of box approach imo is a pointless and bias way to go about it and heavily favors the console which dictates a mandatory install. Xbox gives you both options and because they do they get docked down points? sorry but choice is king.

fair would be to compare all options when there are differences.

the soft install is actually similar to what mgs4 did but wasnt as in your face about it, the first time you boot uc2 the game has a longer load time and whenever you switch chapters (not in order) it will also have extended load times.

I'm getting 1120x720 for the 360. It seems fairly consistent. PS3 version is 1280x720. Certain edges are kinda odd...

What`s up with the 360 version ? Texture streaming looks broken. It`s pretty evident in the last seconds of the GT review as well.

There's... something funky going on. I'll have to get back to you on that. There doesn't appear to be MSAA in either SKU.

Is there much better texture filtering on the floor on the ps3? It seems so in some shots, not really in others, but I cant tell if the 360 versions overall softness is ruining the filtering comparison.

Thats sarcasm,right?

Well, it's sort of based on the premise that they want soft shadows, not hard edges or just hiding the resolution with the jitter

There is also the issue of banding in the penumbra: http://www.gamereactor.eu/media/44/lanoire_244427b.jpg (lower right) In motion, low resolution shadows tend to be more obvious with bilinear (just think of low res edges). *shrug*

-----------

It's not like it's impossible to use bilinear PCF on 360. :p It's just that devs necessarily end up with having to fetch 4 samples, so they have options. On nV hardware, they just use the hardware 2x2 bilinear PCF, single fetch.

I don't have GPU Pro off-hand, but I do recall Avalanche/Humus doing something a little extra with respect to self-shadowing to make it less offensive in Just Cause 2.
