Hikaru could do Phong shading.

Something the next gen consoles cant even do.
An XBOX can do Phong shading, let alone next gen. Phong (shading) is just a rather bad fixed per-pixel lighting model. Next gen could do it without even thinking about it.

Wasn't that a prime feature of the old voodoo cards and the original playstation?

NAOMI 2 is comparable to GCN and Xbox, however, since the PowerVR GPU is older technology, it may have difficulty matching the former at water effects. Does anybody know how good N2 is at water effects? I know it has a very good fixed function TnL unit, but that's probably not enough to compete with GCN and Xbox when it comes to water effects.

Water effects are the only thing more advanced shaders are good for? How about the fire effects in RE4, they beat out what Hikaru could do.

I don't think the fire effects in RE4 needed advanced pixel shading. Anyway Hikaru could also do very nice fire effects even though it looked slightly different from that used in RE4. Hikaru was really designed to add better particle effects like water and smoke.

The latest word on the street is that the PowerVRS5 runs at 700Mhz and factoring in an average overdraw of 5 is capable of 150+Gpixels/ 150+Gtexels. It can also do 16X MSAA4FREE and 128X anisotropic filtering.

Apparantly it weighs in at a hefty 500 Million transistors.

This is only speculation though.

People on the street don't know crap about computer hardware.

Looks great for the most part. Some of the zombie skins need a little higher resolution though.

Nice rave ;)

Just imagine how beautifull this game will look in motion- 60fps and 1080p hi-def all on a 62 inch widescreen monitor.

Wait, sorry to drive this offtopic, but I thought there wasn't any support (yet) for 1080p/60fps... only 1080p/24fps/30fps.

Or are these machines customized to have ths set up?

It's gruesomely impressive in motion at 60-fps with the machine gun splattering parts from dozens of zombies everywhere, misty and hazy atmospheric backdrops, and some nice transitions between harsh and moody lighting. These screens show some awfully coarse modeling, though.

Though the PowerVR board should be able to do nicely at 1080p, I'd imagine Sega Sammy would run this closer to 720p to keep it more in line with the output of the new consoles and the common standards of HDTVs.

I´m sure it looks much better in motion, but Jesus, most of those screens are disgustingly bad.

Edit: I exagerated a little, but to my defense, when I wrote that I was thinking about this screenshot.
