Amsterdam (AP) - Microsoft Chief Xbox Officer Robbie Bach, head of Microsofts Corps (Nasdaq:
MSFT) Gaming Division, today will announced that Microsoft will withdraw from the hottly contested video gaming market. This is a surprising about face from Microsoft, who has been preaching the 'HD Era' since May's Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angelas with the expect launch of their next generation console, the Xbox 360, on November 22nd.
"We just did not feel we could compete with Sony," said Bach. "When the CEO of a multibillion dollar company openly says their CPU [Ed. - Central Processing Unit] is two times as powerful as your flagship model, well, needless to say you are in trouble.
"We checked with the bean counters, and at best we were only prepared to declair our CPU as 78 percent faster than theirs. 100 is bigger than 78, no matter how you cut it. Their PR mojo is just too strong. We actually did check with the marketing department to see how we can spin this but all the monkies were on a smoking break. We really had no options.
This came as a surprise to many in the industry, and even some in the walls of Microsft itself.
"That is bull," says J. Allard, a central part in the Microsoft Gaming division. "Bach's mojo has always been weak. He just is not cool enough. Everyone knows that there is no magic silicon. We get our stuff from the same people Sony does. It is about the tools. And we have the tools, believe me. Just ask the ladies, they will tell you why I am so cool. It is because I have the tools, or more importantly, the tool. The ladies don't lie man. Hey, can you pass my résumé onto Howard Stinger for me?
Thousands of pre-teens were absent from school today, coincidently the same day this news arrived at many homes in the Febuary 2007 edition of EGM. A significant rise in violence by young adults was also observed in local hangouts that had been empty since last November. A former presidential hopeful, Joseph Liberman, D.-Mass, chalks this up as another example of youths being negatively influenced by gaming violence.
"It is clear to me that all crimes committed by youths are gaming related. See this chart here? The increase in revenue in the gaming industry occurs during the same period as youth crimes increase. If we look at this chart from 1801, before video games, we can see the crime rate being effectively stable. The obvisous solution is to tax video games, " said the Demicrat.
But not all sources agree. "You see all those reports about increased youth crime since the Xbox 360 was cancelled? It is clear to me gaming, specifically Halo2 which was released last November when violence began to drop, kept kids home, where they should be. Safe and limiting their violence to squashing pixels," said world savior Master Chief. "Who needs to pop a cap in some punk's [explicitive] when you can get fat on your couch and save the earth from the flood? Flood I tell you, this is a religious experience and it is a crime that our children are being deprived of such an oppurtunity.
Chief also noted, "If Liberman does not shut his trap, I am going to roll my Warthog over to his house and give him a lesson or two in video gaming etiquette.
Ken Kutaragi, head of Sony's game division, notes the Microsoft move is for the better. "Our new processor will rule the world. Skynet? The Matrix? Child's play! CELL will control everything from watches and toasters to NASA. Microsoft is a newcommer to the consumer space. They realized they were no match for Sony, that they could not provide products that made anyone happy.
Intrigued by his comments, we asked Kutaragi what we would need to enjoy their new platform. "Our new technology is so powerful, you need two Sony HDTVs to use it along with a Sony Universal Remote. Toshiba brands do not work. You must buy Sony brand. The console will not ship with a controller. This is a novel approach. Studies show that 76 percent of early adopters are obsessed with the console--controller optional. This is an opening to broaden the gaming experience. Instead gamers are expected to pick up a PlayStation Portable (PSP) for use as an input device. This way we can ensure every gamer has the best experience possible on the PlayStation platform. This is the complete PlayStation platform.
The expect price of the "complete" PlayStation package is USD$14,863.26. Kutaragi also voiced his opinion on why Microsoft failed.
"Microsoft has no vision, everything with them is proprietary," said Kutaragi. "This is why we have adopted the Linux platform, as an open platform it is the future. We have long endorsed open standards and consumer products that encouraged competition of unified formats and allow consumer choice. We have a long history of support such platforms like VHA, MP3, SD, and other popular consumer formats. This is another example of Sony being ahead of Microsoft. Long live open standards.
