Has the console forum been axed?

Without the Console forum this site is useless to me.

They better put them back, if the admins here have any sense.

Err i'm sure Dave will love comments like this. Seeing how the console forum was just a little "bonus" (probably a way, at first, to divrt the kids from the 3D Tech Forums to *anywhere else*) in a site that has always been predominantly PC-centric and still is.

Here's an analogy. It feels like being a sherriff in the wild west where we have to uphold and lay down the law. There is only so much said sherriff can do, (I'mn not spelling sherriff right am I?). We do our best, we honestly do.

Yeah but the thing is, nobody came to this wild west town that didn't want to be there in the first place. I agree the quality's diminished since E3 (noticeably), but caveat emptor and all that, right? I rather have a wild west town where a unique product can be located, so to speak, than have that town wiped off the face of the map.

Well, no. We do not need a wild west town. We need a place where the outlaws can be banished, that way they have no entrance into the town again.

Perhaps my wording came across badly but if one believes that I am deliberately belittling somebody like Dean, then there has been some clear misunderstanding taking place.
I didn't read it like that Neeyik, I understood what you were saying, though I don't nessecarily agree. To me the console forum is as important and good as 3D Tech, 3D Tech tends to be rumours and pipe counting of PC cards.

If there isn't anywhere to talk about R500 or RSX or Hollywood, then much technical knowledge will be lost, even about PC cards.

Of course he won't, but I don't need to patronise him. I think it was a stupid move. Plain and simple. There are better ways to deal with trolls.

The problem is its like a wild west town once out laws came around and burned it down .

There are 2 things to do . See if its worth rebuiding or just leave .

Honestly the console forum should be closed untill the mods of that forum can have the power to ban posters from that section of the forum .

I know personaly that I was doing more deleting of 4 peoples threads at one point (blatent out right trolling or cursing almost on par with opa's ) but unable to really stop them from doing anything .

Its hard to be an effective mod when you post inside thier message and fix the problems and then they just edit over it back to the way it was . Or you delete a thread (and u all know hich one i'm talking about ) and the poster posts its 18 times from 5am to 8 am and all you can do is keep locking it or deleting it .

Thing is though, there is - it just doesn't get used as much as we would have hoped for.

Then its needs to have a bigger sign on it, cos I honestly don't know. 3D Tech has anti console vibes to it, Dev feels a bit monologuey, I'm not even sure if non devs can post on there? Where else would it fit?

I was afraid it might come to this. And to think I'd been away on a trip and was looking forward to browsing CT after the PS meeting thing. D'oh.
Personally, as a newbie, I'd be happy for every newbie to be unable to post (obviously I haven't thought through the practicalities). Or maybe even ban new membership for a while? If I could just read the more intelligent conversations I'd be happy...
But at the end of the day I don't think it fair to ask admin/mods to run the site a certain way when I/we dunno exactly how much effort it'd take. So I'll shut up.
Good night.

Dean's certainly right about the Dev board not being well-highlighted, tucked away at the bottom there - rather gives it a bit of low-key status, which I would hope was not the intention.

I think it is reasonable to expect mods to be capable of banning though. This forum software is just not capable and so around and around we go.

DeanoC i believe we can post there . I am able to post there and don't have modding rights for it . I've also seen guests posting there

http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5553

u can see many users post there
People can reply to posts, but if anyone without special access tries to start a new thread they'll get:

Sorry, but only users granted special access can post topics in this forum.

I don't really get this. What is the point of the console forum if we are supposed to talk about hollywood/RSX/R500 in the developers forum? I would have guessed 3D technology and hardware before there. If we move discussion of these topics there, the forum will become just as popular as the console forum was and the trolls will follow right along. It doesn't really matter one way or another what the forum is called, it's really about popularity. The 3D Technology and Hardware forum got just as bad when it was at the height of it's popularity.

Ah . But that doesn't mean we can't have good discusions .

I would idealy like to see the devs post a thought about the hardware and then allow us to weigh in on it and talk about it .

This way no one can make posts to start trouble .

I'm not saying that one must only talk about it in the Dev forum, I'm simply saying that one can (or rather, I was under the impression that this was easily possible - it's obviously not though!)
