GTA V announced [2011] , [2021-11-11]

Not even Vice City? Man I adored that game although much of it was due to the 80s nostalgia.

Vice City was the best. That whole exaggerated 80s vibe fits perfectly with a game where players are inevitably going to do silly things. Such a shame they skipped right over it and went straight to San Andreas for GTA V.

I found gta4 to have very nice driving mechanics with semi realistic physics. I immediately felt right at home, just like I do with most racing games that have basic physics.

The aiming is shit though, they should have stolen cod's aiming mechanics

I like racing sims like GT5, and I like racing games in general for that matter. But GTA's driving has always felt awkward to me.

Edit: I just played some GTA IV, here's my problem with it. The cars have weight to them in the sense that they won't go around corners, and won't break properly. But the moment you hit something or the wheels spin it starts flailing about uncontrollably. There is no middle ground, suddenly all that weight is gone. And when the weight is there it's way overdone for a game where I just want to get from A to B fast.

Vice City was the perfect GTA game, with the 80s so well defined and so much modern culture starting there it was easy to get in "character". Something the following GTA games have had a hard time doing, with me at least. Especially GTA4 left me cold.

With Vice even a straigth HiDef upgrade would sell a copy to me. A refined HiDef Remix update with the same basic missions plus added bonus content for example in the form of extra missions with some of the sidekicks would sell to more than the silly fans like me :)

Am I the only one who liked IV the best and likes the direction Rockstar took the thing?

Probably. IV was utterly boring piece of average stuff with most missions being copies of each other and that's before we start discussion about the plot. And yeah, I played it to end even though after 2-3hours the rest of the content was mostly recycled drive and shoot with couple of exceptions. Previous installments had more variety, fun factor and originality.

I think it's probably the best in the series. At the time it came out, Vice City was amazing. Overall, if I had to play one of the two now, I'd play IV instead.

I thought IV was solid. It was definitely a step backward from San Andreas, but it was still better than most games that year. I'm a sucker for open world games tho, and driving through crowded cities is a blast. I only wish we could get a Forza/GT5 quality driving game in a San Andreas esque setting...

Anyway Vice City had a few features missing from later installments, but I'd hardly call it the peak of the series, myself. I suppose if you like hackneyed gangster movies. Good game, tho.

The reason I prefer IV is because it feels more mature. It stepped away from the over the topness, cheesiness, and Gangstar Rapers from the ghetto rule the world, imaturities of the past games. Its the first game in which the writing really caught my attention and the dialogues are a genuinely fun part of the game on themselves. RDR and LA noire took all that a step further, and I much prefer to see Rockstar focus on that direction and leave the cheap thirteen-yearold-mindset over-the-top OMG-these-rapper-are-so-badass for Saints row.

I like the silliness of the older GTA games, and it's nothing like Saints Row. Nobody is asking for GTA to be like Saints Row.

I like the lighter tone of previous GTA games as well. I think RockStar can find a good balance between GTA 4 and the previous titles, it shouldn't have to be a either/or case for GTA 5 being serious or fun (having a slight sense of humor).

I kind of hope GTA sticks to a more serious tone. It worked well at times in GTA4 and RDR, but then they'd thrown in some zany comedy and it would seem really out of place. If you're going to go the dramatic route, you've got to stick with it and not go overboard on the weirdness.

Exactly. It can be serious enough to allow for a decent story. And silly enough to let the player do whatever not seem out of place.

Yeah, I mean letting the player run amok on crazy vehicles with lots of weapons is great. What i don't want to see is the over-the-top silly story elements and cut scenes.

Then we agree on that one. I did forgive the lack of crazyness of IV, cause I kind of felt like "its their first game this gen, next one they are gonna put some crazier stuff in there" And by the look the latest screenshots, that seems to be the case.

My rant about GTA IV and some other things (a bit too aggressive and know-it-all, whoops):

This is what I hope for GTA V:

How about make GTA V where you are "Donnie Brasco", with the choice to stay legit or side with the mob? How about writing a real story for GTA instead of those boring, amateurish stories?
Or, stay on the crazy, funny side and poke fun at many stereotypes as in the earlier games...

New stuff leaked, trailer 2 incoming confirmed by R* plus GI exclusive 18 page preview on 8th this month. Got to say, game looks glorious, especially lighting and that terrain rendering. Wondering if consoles will ever reach 30fps:smile:

Gameplay ! We want gameplay footage !

Also, I really hope they take the MP to full heights this time. The game world has so much potential for an ecstatic MP experience with lotsa players ! I haven't really liked any GTA till now but I would love a full-on MP experience in this world. It has so much potential and can become a never ending GTA if it is harnessed.

Interesting thing about that, they never released any gameplay footage for GTA4 until release.

I know that and that is why I ain't showing much interest as of now. Trailers are cool always for GTA, but they mean nothing , frankly, for a game thats supposed to be open world to indulge in fun  !

I hope R* changes its ways and shows gameplay demoes for this one.
