Not even Vice City? Man I adored that game although much of it was due to the 80s nostalgia.
Vice City was the best. That whole exaggerated 80s vibe fits perfectly with a game where players are inevitably going to do silly things. Such a shame they skipped right over it and went straight to San Andreas for GTA V.
I found gta4 to have very nice driving mechanics with semi realistic physics. I immediately felt right at home, just like I do with most racing games that have basic physics.
The aiming is shit though, they should have stolen cod's aiming mechanics
I like racing sims like GT5, and I like racing games in general for that matter. But GTA's driving has always felt awkward to me.
Edit: I just played some GTA IV, here's my problem with it. The cars have weight to them in the sense that they won't go around corners, and won't break properly. But the moment you hit something or the wheels spin it starts flailing about uncontrollably. There is no middle ground, suddenly all that weight is gone. And when the weight is there it's way overdone for a game where I just want to get from A to B fast.
