Look what MS started. I'm just disgusted. First horse armor and now this. :???:

My biggest fear is that publishers/developers would hold back on content just to charge us for it later! And it's coming true.

Huh what is Horse armor? Sorry I didnt follow the whole thing. You can answer me wia pm if you want. :)

Sounds to me like Sony is just charging people to beta test a demo.
Strange part is, most of you seem to like that idea.
Why is that strange? Most people have been paying Microsoft to beta test their software for at least 10 years (and many ppl like that by their own admissions).

The horse armor and extra quests/areas in Oblivion don't even compare to this. The classic GT is a contentless game from the get-go. Oblivion was far, far, far from being contentless.

Plus, there's the first six months MINIMUM of ever single MMORPG... :p

Well, it was contentless as far as horse armor is concerned!

Plus, GT has PLENTY of content... Just not cars or tracks, duh!

yeah ive mentioned this before, its a slippery slope
A/ finish game
B/ remove some content to sell later
C/ a month alter market said content as special/extra/extension/bonus/upgrade whatever
ka-ching

(edit)
a couple minutes later i read this

Leave it to EA to prove that they are still the "evil" EA. Long story short, EA has completely nerfed the "exclusive" 360 version of FIFA 07. For this wonderful exclusive, EA has decided to remove an entire 18 soccer leagues, leaving the 360 with a paltry 7. Even the 7 is misleading, as one of those leagues has only one team in it. One team! On top of all this, the 360 version is also getting less than half of the stadiums of it's last gen brethren (21 compared to 47 on Xbox and PS2). Granted, we're all Americans here at 360 ******, and thus not soccer fans by default, but this is ri-goddamn-diculous.

Anybody else want to bet that EA just might be expecting us to buy the missing content with MS Points? Shame on you EA. Why release the game at all?
we'll be seeing more + more of this to come

I don't think Fifa's going to sell at all with that model. Most hardcore soccer fans play Winning Eleven so that's just more incentive to get it.

On topic, the worst part is if you put like $80 into the game (theoretically) then you'd never get the money back because you can't sell the cars or tracks.

Eh... where? The Famitsu article clearly indicates new contents. For example this part in the OP I translated is about selling special cars. Also the article shows a pic of a car for GT HD Classic that appeared in Le Mans 24 Hours last year.

Nowhere does it say that in the OP. I don't read kanji. But lets say they do release special content... a few cars (limited run of 1000? lol) or maybe even a new track (which I doubt, since the game is supposed to be based off of GT4). Does that warrant a completely content empty game? Does that warrant $.50-$1 per car? 100-200 yen per track? How much content are you willing to buy at those prices? No one is forcing you to buy this stuff, no. But what is the precedent it is setting?

IGN asked this question in their most recent article: How much are they charging for the menu? :D

In my view, the real issue is _not_ the absurdly high fee for individual users who want everything. Some sort of reference price is already set for console games, so PD would not be able to charge high without uproars like this.

The real problems lie elsewhere. For their new scheme to sustain, some of the key issues are:

* If PD allows users to start playing with a low fee (e.g., per car, per track charging in the 2nd SKU), will it cannibalize SKU 1 ? Does the lower entry fee attract new players at all ?

* Can PD service the users better/faster/cheaper now that they have continuous channels to their userbase for other related services.

It seems that they want to do a large scale, live pilots for their new business model.

And yes, I agree it's bad PR... he has probably received enough feedback about his "bad idea" interview. Like I said, PD has to figure out some win-win formula. Let's hope they found/find something.

I agree. This seems to be a live pilot. I do hope they figured out something, as long as that something is not this.

The latest issue of Famitsu has an interview with Kazunori Yamauchi for the new Gran Turismo on PS3.

+ They'll release the new Gran Turismo called "Gran Turismo HD" (they use the same name as the E3 demo for the product name) for the PS3 soon. It's composed of 2 parts, Premium and Classic.

- Notice please, there is no version without cars or tracks -

The first version of this post is everywhere (i am guilty as well). OMG SONY IS SELLING A GAME YOU CANT PLAY.. :)

The joys of the internet.

Well... according to one's latest post and the link Bad_Boy posted (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/733/733728p1.html?RSSwhen2006-09-20_101600&RSSid=733728), the 2 SKUs are just 2 modules of the same SKU.

In this light... GT:HD Classic is really just an online service where you buy cars and tracks to play (as opposed to monthly subscription model). Its response should allow PD to calibrate its next online step.

as opposted to paying a monthly subscribtion?

Why would you pay a monthly subscritbion to play a online racing game? Its not a MMO. Its your standart racing game mp

who said this was a monthly subscription? i think my point was that it wasnt a monthly subscription. meaning, you are not forced to constantly pay to play.

I am not sure if we have all the info needed to make any decision or judgement yet.
No we don't and can only talk about the info we do have. But I say it's right to kick up a fuss over pricing models like this (if one is fussed). This noise trickles back to PD and they realize they may be shooting themselves in the foot. Wheras if everyone politely just waits and sees, and there's no talk of fire and brimstone for Polyphony for charging me to try cars or new courses, they'll think everyone's happy with the concept.

Maybe they are planning on testdrives before you buy, bulk deals and race packs, or a full-game on release. Until we know that, we should make as much noise as possible to tell them that's what we want!
