GT HD Premium = GT5 Prologue | GT HD Classic = GT:HD at E3

You bolded the wrong part - I was stressing the part where the price and form hasn't been finalized, except that Kaz indicated that the price of the game would be little more than the price of the disk and booklet (I think - I'm starting to doubt everything at this point, including my memory ;) ). Although I'm apparently not the only one who saw the comment where GT:HD Classic would include all GT4 assets by default, I already retracted that comment earlier in this thread after seeing more interviews.

At the moment GT: HD Classic includes all GT4 assets (ie all stuff in GT4 is in GT Classic) + some more, it just you need to pay for each one of them to use it, price given is roughly $0.50 to $1 for 1 car and $2-$5 for 1 track. Anyone want to guess how much they will charge for the parts and upgrades ? :)

You need roughly about 30 - 50 cars to cover most of the classes that's roughly $25
You most likely need the majority of those tracks, probably say 35 tracks that's roughly $100
$125 is still pretty cheap or tops somewhere at $350, that's still inexpensive. As long as you don't collect them all, the price is still reasonable. I would pay that kind of prices, if it was GT Premium, but since this is GT Classic, PD ain't getting my support.

I still think that they should release a full retail price version of the game. In my personal case, i live in a third world country and i there is a good number of Gran Turismo fans over here that wont be able to enjoy that experience since ADSL is not as mainstream as in other countries.

That, and having an international credit card (i.e. the ability to buy in us dollars), is not something available to everyone. More than a need, is a luxury.

can somebody explain the gt hd classic and premium version situation a bit pleas?

are these both on ONE disc? you play the premium demo and you can drive and microtransact your online gthd classic game?

I must say, I am quite impressed by GT HD Premium... but at the same time a bit underwhelmed as well. On one hand, I can't wait to get that Grindelwald track (looks like exactly the sort of track I'd want to drive with a Lotus Exige :p ) and I quite like the crisp clarity of the mountains and the depth of the entire track. It does seem as if you have an endless drawdistance of the surroundings, everything modelled in 3d and as detailed as ever. Even if it ends up being 2d technically, who cares if the illusion they've created is close to perfect, so I won't really get dug up on its technical aspect until we've got more footage to spot the imperfections.

Now my main concern and disappointment:
The crispier and sharper the graphics, the better you spot flaws and the more a given game looks cgiish and artificial. The one racer that IMO still impresses most IMO is not GT4 or GT HD Premium - it's Gran Turismo 3, specifically the wet-track at night time. It's dark, lots of lighting going on, wet track, reflections on the floor etc. I was really hoping Polyphony would pick up on that and try to bring in some more of that aspect into their next games; Less detailed textures and more geometry and more effects... Perhaps even try to simulate wind where you see leaves blowing over the track, grass moving accoardingly next to the track, heat that distorts the viewpoint slightly... reflections on the track caused by the sun that would just make the whole appearence a little more authentic and less artificially created. Perhaps if there is enough performance to spare, even bring in realtime weather effects... rain, fog, nighttime/daylight... or a mixture of those. I imagine especially the Swiss track would make for quite a sight if you drive it in the early morning when you still have fog at the bottom with a wet track and at the top you have the morning sun shining down on you...

GT HD = GT Classic + GT Premium.

GT Classic = PS2 GT4 in HD with Online. Doesn't come with track or car. It can have all cars, tracks and parts from GT4, and more, provided you microtransact everything they offer in their online shop. 1 Car = $0.50 - $1 and 1 track = $2 - $5. Price aren't finalise yet, these approx prices are for Japanese.

GT Premium = GT5 Prologue with 2 tracks and 30 cars in Arcade mode only. There are several more tracks and 30 cars that you can microtransact at later time, before GT5 comes.

GT HD will be sold at the cost of the disc and manual, whatever that comes to, probably less than $20.

Does that clear it up ?

Actually, to be correct, those preleminary prices were only give for GT HD:premium according to the GameWatch article (cars (50-100 Yen) and courses (200-500)). The Classic prices could be different.

other reports say that this kind of pseudo-3d setup makes you feel like playing a game with parallax scrolling

I wouldnt know since I was not playing it at Tokyo though.

but whatever it feels like, i think the term "endless draw distance" is a bit misused here.
this is certainly not the kind of graphics we expect for next-gen.

PD on the other hand are very good with illusion, like doing the cars with very simple geometry but very nice bitmaps put on them on their previous games,
or even the illusion that you are getting a bargain here with their latest, GT:HD.

The official website has the TGS conference movie.

Basically Yamauchi says why they decided to develop GTHD is to serve casual gamers who play 10-30 minutes a day. In PS1 days it was norm that gamers dedicate 100 hours to playing GT, but nowadays casual gaming is a trend. It's the reason why GTHD is not GT5 in the mainstream series. Besides, he says it takes half a year to model one GT5-spec car while it took 1-2 months for a GT4 car. The movie shows realtime car-preview in GTHD Premium (the same model as the in-game model), gameplay in GTHD Premium, and replay in GTHD Classic.

A new article is up at Eurogamer too.

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=68001

It seems damage aswell will be introduced alongside the updates on new AI available for download sometime in 2007:)

BTW,
The amount of data for each car is approximately 20 times that of GT4.
Taking the progression lines with PD's car modeling into account; With GT1/2 probably some days to a week, GT3/4 one month+, GT5/6? half a year, some of us may even live long enogh to see the day when GT7 releases!;-)

Heh heh... so they are after my kind these days. *If* the thing is priced low (or bundled) to begin with, then I might take a look at it as mentioned in my previous posts on this subject.

By this time car manufacturors will either hand a model to PD ready made, or will hire PD to make their models for them. :D

Anyway, I found a nice video showing off the new Ferrari model in GT. It's short, but fairly sweet.

Here's an in-car shot of the Ferrari, seemingly confirming the cockpit view for GT:HD. Apparently, some of the Ferrari information and video was released during the Paris Car Show.

There are also a few new hi-res images on the official sites. I'm not sure where, but you can get them also through www.gtplanet.net (just go to the front page and see the link there).

The video I posted earlier by the way shows very clearly that the mountains are 3D.

Woah, now that I find very impressive! I was already worried that they would leave out the cockpit views - now that I see it in that screenshot, I am very pleasently surprised by the crisp and clarity and at how well modelled it is. Even the carbon-fibre is modeled quite nice, as are the round dials and steering wheel with no visible edges.

Bah! Gorgeous video, not necessarily luvin' the graphics or anything (though tey seem to look pretty nice!), but I can't wait to drive those brand new Ferraries with music turned off, full engine sound on my sub and roar down those Swiss Alp roads!:D
