Gran Turismo Sport [PS4]

Those cardboard trees are absolutely hilarious. I get it, they think we won't even look st the trees while playing, and that's kinda true, but still. Seen so much better in the current gen that seeing these cheap tricks on a game like gran turismo is hilarious.

Porsche with Dyson engine, nice !
The actual tone of the engine is fairly close to accurate, as are most of the cars I've heard so far in GTS. GTS has greatly improved the tone of the engine sounds, as well as the gear shifts. They also added exhaust kickback, engine whine and wind noise (or at least they're a lot more pronounced). Most other racers make cars sound a lot more raspy than they really are... like the audio was recorded a foot from the exhaust.

If there's anything to criticize GTS on in terms of audio, it's that it's still a little too 'clean' sounding when going over bumps and under hard cornering etc. They have to make engines sound a little more gritty and variable in these instances and it will sound just as good as the best sounding racers, and probably a lot more accurate. Still a huge improvement over previous GTs. I would actually consider the audio good, but still not great.

The main problem with something like the Tokyo track is that it looks decent, but it badly needs some animation. Flying birds, planes, ads, leaves, dirt, people etc. Put those in and it will make a big difference.

60fps racers on current gen consoles look like garbage (forza, gt, whatever). The cars look pretty nice, but the environments are awful. They should take the performance improvement from PS4 Pro and Scorpio and use it purely for upgrading the environment. If they could make the trees and the rough on the side of the road even look moderately better it would be a massive improvement.
not as big of a deal when they look good in motion. Tried the F12016 Demo and is the only racing game i tested on PS4 so far. I thought it looked alright considering the amount of cars on track

I think Pro/Scorpio will be used for upgrades you mentioned in the future in 1080P modes at least.

Wow the lighting in this footage is, fantastic!
However when looking at DF's footage from the beta, the graphics there looks like crap!

The track they mostly showed in that footage is the worst looking track in the game, and is most likely still WIP (wasn't initially in the beta until an update). Porsche footage track wasn't shown in DF either.

The other tracks look great though.

Microscopic GIFs / Replay Footage / Photomode vs Real Gameplay footage = reality sets in.. (btw SunhiLegend's GIFs like the one above are always edited with added post-fx like more motion blur, camera shake + cropped etc..). The biggest offender this Gen has been DriveClub (most of the screens/vids/gifs posted everywhere are either from Photomode/Replay of tiny-Gifs which all hide the game's god-awfull IQ/AA/ShaderAliasing during gameplay)

GTS BETA doesn't have a photomode. Plus replays just add motion blur AFAIK, they don't add much else.
Fact is, it's a beta, and not every instance of the beta looks gorgeous... the game is incomplete. Plus the game tries to be photorealistic and they model their tracks to their real-life counterparts as best as they can.

It's easy to find non-flattering footage of any racing game, really. There are plenty of GTS videos and screenshots (like the ones vspectra posted above, which are gameplay screenshots)) that look gorgeous. Some textures and environment details aren't great (but again, it IS a beta), but the lighting, car models and materials are all top notch.

Indeed... : http://www.gamersyde.com/hqstream_driveclub_driveclub_new_track_kobago-34078_en.html

Sure, the game does look much better in photomode (like in most racing games) but the IQ is still acceptable during gameplay (especially in motion) : http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=219541139&postcount=8648

To put things in perspective, someone made a comparison at Neogaf :

The less polished tracks look really bad though but it's likely because the game is still in Beta.

I agree with you on the horrible shader aliasing part. But to be fair, DriveClub still looks better than ALL the racing games out there, though some people will debate whether Forza Horizon 3 looks better.

I would say at its best, it's head and shoulder above all the other 60 fps racers simply due to lighting, car tessellation and the material. However the game is very inconsistent, in its worst it looks terrible but still shits on Forza 6, in fact pretty much every 60 fps racers shit on Forza 6 at this point. Anyway what can you expect from a 60 fps racer graphics wise? It would never look nearly as good as 30 fps visual pushers like DriveClub, NFS or Forza Horizon.
