Formula 1 - 2013 Season

Alonso in the world of cycling, not good I fear. cycling has been rife with cheats and alonso has no qualms about cheating

To add little more drama (fun) to this silly season I can see Kubica coming back to F1 either in Williams, Ferrari or Lotus.

He has unfinished business in F1 and at his last WRC German Rally asked about coming back next year in WRC car instead of WRC2 he replayed:
"to be hones I want to be somewhere else in Germany next year, it will mean I will be back on the circuit, if not maybe yes"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23C4RxniQz4#t=37

One can hope ;)

Edit. And he hinted few more times at various places in Polish about 'different' possibilities than WRC for next year. It could be DTM, but unlikely as he rejected it once already.

Even if he's coming back, forget about Ferrari or Lotus. They are not going to take a risk with somebody that hasn't been driving an F1 cars for years AND had/has some serious injuries that they won't be sure of are gone unless they put in him the car for a couple of months.

All they need is a driver that is good enough and is a known quantity. Plenty of them on the grid.

This is where you might be mistaken. He drives in Mercedes simulator quite regularly this year so people who need to know have all the data they need and he will not come back to F1 if he thinks he cannot do it properly. So if any team will sing him they will have no doubt he can do the job properly, besides any team can test a driver in old spec F1 car with FIA permission.

There will be a decision made within 2 months time and then we will hopefully know better, for now it's just pure speculation with some hints from certain people.

I would think it's a bit different on how one performs in a simulator (where nothing can go wrong besides laptime) and in the real world, especially for a person who has suffered a grave crash (with consequences). He's not coming back, ever.

Leaving aside the 'fact' that he's not coming back ever, do you know how Mercedes simulator looks like, work and is capable of?

And recent write up about Rosberg's experiences in it:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/21733592

Besides, he is currently competitively racing in WRC2 and did DTM tests before. Especially WRC race can go wrong quite often and it didn't stop him from doing it. If he wouldn't be able to drive F1 car there wouldn't even be mention of it from his side. If he gets second chance is a different matter ...

Hamilton struggling to make Q1 again - "I drove like an idiot". You sure did Ham. No great loss as the Merc doesn't appear to have the pace anyway.

Raikonnen and Grosjean out as well. Red Bulls look to be a mile ahead and even Alonso getting a tow isn't helping. Ricciardo could steal 3rd here I think.

Wow Hulk 3rd, good show.

Ricciardo was just confirmed as Red Bulls 2nd driver next season.

So next news will be Kimi returning to Ferrari and Alonso driving a bicycle next year

It would be more fun if Kimi with his recent performance gets the bicycle first

Anyway, tomorrow's weather forecast is quite intriguing... Perhaps one of the few factors which can ruin germans party :D

Actually, it would be a genius idea if they naturally make the circuits wet by changing the climate over Europe. I already hate this severe drought in recent years. It gets worse

Today, I was quite badly surprised by the british commentators on Sky Sports F1. When Hamilton was out, they were quite sad, when Massa outqualified Fernando, they were being sarcastic and in kind of evil laughing mood

Anymore on the story of Alonso calling everyone at the team stupid?

Cannot see him being at Ferrari next year

If Fernando is not next year in Ferrari, then the team is indeed stupid. Recently I am quite badly surprised by italians in general. They are so overrated and one car that competes, cannot build...

No worries, Alonso will stay at Ferrari. It's second driver I'm not sure about.

Regarding qualifying, I'm disappointed by Vettel's performance but quite happy that Ferraris are not far behind. Real surprises were both Torro Rosso's and Hulks pace.

PS. Nothing against Vettel personally as he is among best drivers out there, it's just for the sake of championship battle I rather see him fail more or less ;)

Hulkenberg was the star today, but it was slightly difficult to follow the session as I couldn't get 3G to work at first. That meant I couldn't use the timing app on my phone until about Q2. Seeing Hamilton and Kimi go out early was a shocker. Alonso being beaten by Massa was too, but the tifosi like Massa so there wasn't a big upset in the stands.

Still, the atmosphere is great and if you haven't heard a F1 going at full pelt towards the first chicane in Monza and felt the loud bangs as the car goes down the gears while breaking, well, you haven't really experienced the F1 soundtrack.

I was going to post some pictures from Monza, but I forgot the lead for my camera so I can only share these impromptu pics of some crazy Ferrari fans in the paddock after quali (they were pushing around a trolly shaped like a Ferrari F1 but it had a big sound system on it which played music)

Oh, and here's a picture proving that Red Bull sucks :devilish:

(there are girls driving around in Red Bull-branded Minis and giving out free Red Bull cans to everyone, they are pushing a new Italy-only flavour. It's nothing special IMHO)

Tomorrow I am really anticipating the start of the race, 22 cars exploding from their grid positions.

For me, the problem when looking at the quali time and result at Monza is whether the pace is genuine or someone got a tow. The few ones that I'm sure didn't use a tow is the RB and the Ferrari (because it failed). Although Hulk performance is amazing (considering the Sauber performance this season) but depending whether he got a tow or not it can go from amazing to just good.

Tow gives you about 0.1s to 0.15s which means Hulks performance was amazing regardless. Besides tow is double whammy as in corners you loose performance. The only reason it's a net positive in Monza is because there are not many corners and most of them are very short.

@Bludd
Thanks for sharing your experiences and pics! Much appreciated

I don't have a link so not sure if true, but on another forum someone said that Button has said that Alonso has already asked McLaren about a spot for next year.

If so, that means he is deeply unhappy withe Ferrari. Which is quite understandable. He can't wait any longer for the team to build somethng decent to give titles...

Oo, it's raining a bit at the moment already, should be interesting first corner if it's still wet then.

Also apparently Sky & RTL guys are pretty confident that Kimi will in fact drive Ferrari next season
