Formula 1 - 2013 Season

We talked about that overtaking stat last season and i said it was bullshit then. Just look at it this season - how many people has Alonso overtaken already? Must be nearly 20 in 3 races. That stuff just doesn't matter though because there are too many other variables involved.

As for reliable cars - he can't rely on other drivers or the team. Alonso has lost 2 world titles as the direct result of awful team performance (Ferrari in 2010) or being taken out by another driver (Grosjean last year) on top of insane luck for Vettel while Alonso drove a pig of a car. He lost the title in 2007 because he wasn't given full support of the team and Hamilton was faster than he was meant to be.

In any other era, car or luck this guy is a 5+ world champion. There is still a good chance he will be. Vettel might make 5 on the back of him having the best car by a mile. Neither Raikkonen or Hamilton will win 3 - Kimi is unlikely to win another and Hamiton is unlikely to win another 2.

It wasn't bullshit then and isn't bullshit now, only thing it doesn't take into account that could be seen as legimate overtakes are 1st lap overtakes (including start), as for this season, it's 13 for Alonso, Räikkönen is at 15, Vettel is at 17 and Hamilton at 13.

Alonso has had his fair share of good luck with Räikkönen & Schumacher having more DNFs due cars breaking left and right while Renault was near indestructible (I don't think any top driver has ever had as brittle car as Räikkönen during his McLaren years tbh, which cost him 1 championship for sure (which Schumacher won) and 1 possibly (which Alonso won), then there's seasons like 2002 where his car broke in 11 of 16 races, who knows how high he would have been if the car was like Schumachers which never broke that season)

Ferrari in 2010 was by no means bad performer, and it was still more reliable than Red Bull (no matter if you compare just vettel & alonso or whole teams). Ferrari also scored more fastest laps that season than Red Bull for example.

You could say the same "5+ championships" from any top driver given the right car and era.

but no statistics say he's better than the other top drivers

This is definitely not something which can be seen by looking at the statistics. You need something special to realise it, special vision. But you are blind because you have other drivers as favourites...

BTW: Kimi is not satisfied with the car despite quickest time on Friday. Probably he realises he will be beaten on Sunday :D

In other words, he's not.

Yes, he obviously has crystal ball and knows sunday results already :D
Got link for that btw? Only "negative" statement I've seen from him after the practices was about the mistake he made on the fastest lap

Alonso has had top3 car pretty much always during his success just like Schumacher, and really realiable cars too.

You have a funny memory. The Ferrari that Alonso beat was mighty. look at the start of last year, the Ferrari was nowhere near where he put that car.

Alonso is quick when the car is good and quick when its rubbish, that you cant see from statistics, you can only see it by watching.

so maybe its just you.

Noticed the "pretty much always" instead of "always"? Also the Ferrari last season averaged about 3rd best, too, due it being probably the best on wet and not THAT bad on dry either, especially few races into the season

Bad performance for Kimi, but damn Nico was fast

Hopefully Kimi will get the right settings for start this race instead of wrong ones and can grab few places on 1st lap and possibly do 1 pitstop less.

edit:
Last time Kimi won he started from 7th, now he's 7th again after Hamiltons penalty I think?

Oh great, now that Kimi's 8th it means starting on the dirtier side of the track, might have been better off starting from 9th

Kimi has pretty much blown his chance anyway, so either Vettel or Alonso for me. Hopefully we'll see those two racing without any incidents this time.

Yes, just like he lost his chance with 7th position at Melbourne.. oh wait

Anything can happen, and if Lotus can do 1 stop less I'd give Kimi at least as high chance as Rosberg, Vettel and Alonso for winning the GP, and friday practices long runs at least were really positive with Kimi doing a lot longer stint on the softer set without times dropping compared to anyone else

Keep dreaming. :D

I am not going to torture anymore Kaotik with bad news about his favourite. Because I know how much it hurts when a given sportsman with huge potential from one's country loses to the best in that sport...
