Formula 1 - 2012 Season

Very nice race indeed!
I was really rooting for Hamilton on this occasion as he really deserved to win one more time this year, even though I'm far from his fan.
Great job by Alonso to salvage that 3rd from his starting position :)
Also I don't agree with notion that Grosjean is not F1 material. He is very quick, and as many team managers will say, you can make quick driver drive sensibly but you can't make slow driver drive quickly.

Brilliant race, Lewis rocked that. I was so wishing for Vettel's alternator to pack in at the end there.

Hamilton has really impressed me this season tbh, it's his best season by far. I do wonder if he's completely lost the plot by moving to Mercedes though.

Limiting DRS use in qualifying to the race zones is the best news I've heard in terms of making qualifying more competitive and races more interesting. It makes sense to have qualifying pace approximate race pace as closely as possible.

I wonder if that would've tipped Hamilton to staying with McLaren.

Hamilton's overtake might be quite important for Alonso. Had Vettel won in Texas, he would have been crowned champion with zero points from Brazil, if Alonso would finish second or lower. Now if Vettel retires, Alonso just has to be on the podium. I don't feel like Alonso is fighting for the race wins at the moment, but he certainly seems to find himself on the podium quite often.

Massa really can't complain - He's been poor for years and Ferrari have stuck by him.

Regardless of personal feelings over what is right and wrong, it was the right thing to do in terms of the championship. The Ferrari is a poor car and you can imagine how badly they'd be struggling if Alonso wasn't getting preferential treatment.

I have to say I thought Perez was the automatic choice just before McLaren signed him up, but since then he's been nothing short of woeful. Interesting point about the fitness test too.

Would Hulkenberg have been the better choice? Or somebody else?

I actually think Heikki Kovalainen is a much better driver than he was at McLaren first stint and I'd like to see him in a faster car again, although something as fast as the McLaren was never going to be likely. Too old maybe as well, but perhaps he'll end up at Force India if Sutil doesn't come back.

I can really see McLaren struggling next year if Perez can't step up to the plate. Feels like it's going to be another easy RBR season.

Massa was on pace for a podium finish throughout the weekend though. I understand the tactics of it, but feel bad for him.

I wonder if Ferrari dare pull a similar move in Brazil, Massa's home turf. Massa has always been fast at Interlagos, it is not unlikely he will qualify ahead of Alonso again.

Cheers

the last 5 to 6 races massa really has got his mojo back and that is showing in the constructors championship.

hell it showing in my f1 fantasy league, mid season massa was worth 7 mill now he is worth 15 million, alonso is 21.5 .

Yup there's no doubt he's improved a lot the past few races. Hopefully he can keep it going and mount a real challenge next year. I'd rather see him win it than any of the other front runners.

Not a huge fan of Hamilton but seemed like he would be up there with Vettel and Alonso in championship points had his McLaren not DNFed him 2-3 times this year especially when he was leading!

the problem is that as long as alonso is still in the race, Massa can't win no matter how fast he is, he'd just get told to hold off everyone 'till Alonso can pass them and then let him through

That all depends on how well the season starts. If Massa can beat Alonso on pace then there's no reason for Ferrari to back Alonso instead. He may well be #2 driver but he can change that with wins.

Up till the last 5 or 6 races he's looked like a second slower than Alonso. Judging by the past few races, there's nothing actually wrong with his car or his raw pace - it's all been in his head.

Oh, there is a reason no matter how good pace Massa has. It's called Alonsos contract.
