Formula 1 - 2010 Season

1

Dacia Duster. Driven in trophee-andros by Alain Prost. :p

It has 4 wheels, a engine, gearbox, steeringwheel and drives on a road so yeah it still is a car. It still has a fair deal in common with a normal car, you could even run it on most decent highways in Europe. Something like the Thrust SSC isnt a car anymore I think. That is just a couple of wheels with 2 jet engines strapped on to it that will only go in a straight line very fast for a very short time in a big empty dessert.

News just in, roadcars are to compete ion F1... manufacturers finally get their way over Maximus Mosley's dead body! Luca Montemozeralla could be heard laughing maniacally in the background. Toyota immediately issued a press release announcing it would enter its Prius range for the 2010 season. Jen's Son Batton signed up saying he was guaranteed the best chance to win a world championship was with McLaren but with the Prius in F1 he believes McLaren has breached its contract to him and will sign for Toyota on a salary of just 50p.

.... OK I should stop now. :devilish:

In other news Eric Boullier has been confirmed as the new Renault F1 team principal. Kubica seems to have decided to stay with the team and I hope Heidfeld won't be his team mate. I want to see someone dynamic and vibrant in the second Renault seat and not stodgy old Nick.

Drivers in bold are confirmed, nonbold are my speculation and "educated" guesses.

Mercedes GP: Rosberg and Schumacher
Red Bull: Vettel and Webber
McLaren: Hamilton and Button
Ferrari: Alonso and Massa
Williams: Barrichello and Hulkenberg
Renault: Kubica and ??
Force India: Liuzzi and Sutil
Toro Rosso: Buemi and Alguersuari
Campos: Senna and Maldonado or Petrov
Lotus: Trulli and Kovalainen
Virgin: Glock and di Grassi
USF1: ??
Sauber: Kobayashi and de la Rosa

Changelog:
Removed Piquet.
Removed everyone but de la Rosa for the remaining Sauber drive, but not bolded him since it is not officially confirmed.
Added Maldonado and Petrov to Campos.

I Dont watch F1 as much as I used to. But are these cars now not as electronified as they used to be? I mean they prolly still have launch control but do they have ABS and Traction Control and all the safety aids that regular cars have or have they been yanked out?

As far as I know there is no driving aid at all in F1. They banned traction control in 2008, they are going to ban KERS (might not).

Driving aids are a bit of a slippery slope. After all a good suspension is a driving aid, and noone is limiting how much they can improve suspension other than not making it power assisted. Or would you argue that springs without shocks is as easy to drive as springs + shocks? :) Or live axle versus independant?

Better to just say there are acceptable driving aids and there are unacceptable driving aids.

Regards,
SB

There is power steering, quick-shift gearbox and very smart differentials. There is not engine braking, traction control, active suspension nor launch control.

Short-cuts? Sounds interesting, but it is a strange idea. I think 5 may be too many, though.

Edit: after thinking about it, why wouldn't someone just run these short-cuts successively until their allotted short-cuts are spent? You gain time, you do it when you do your fastest laps and you're on fresh tyres and if you're at the front, you'll probably get a clear track and you shoot away from everyone winning in a way similar to that of the Ferraris in the first half of this century.
