Formula 1 - 2008 Season

Nobody should get a penalty as nothing happend... Whats next? giving out penalty's for driving to close to your compatitor? Nothing happend, massa saw sutil on time, sutil didnt even got scared. Nothing happend. Stuff like this happens a dozen of times each season.

Not in F1, it happened twice in the GP2 race, and both got stop and go penalties.

If they don't punish Massa, they may as well rename the rule book and simply call it the rule book for everyone but Ferrari as that's what the rules appear to be.

Tongue is right, it's happened before. Like I said, I expect Ferrari to be penalised(money?) since F1A have been trying to cut out such things from happening and have warned teams before that they need to watch carefully before releasing the driver. I don't expect Massa to have issues though.

What no-one is even discussing Räikkönen getting a penalty? I think what he did is dangerous. What does it get, does he have to rip the whole fuel hose off? There must be some kind of a problem, I don't know if it's mental or what. Too little work and too much relaxing during the summer break?

That said, Kovalainen seemed really, really slow: outclassed compared to Hamilton and there is no excuse.

All in all not the weekend I was looking forward to.

There have been penalties for it in F1 before as well. Its whether or not the pitlane has sufficient room - this one didn't have a lot.

The fact is, though, they chose to investigate. However, they even decided to not to apply the standard rule in the investigation; they chose to defer any decision until after the race and the only precident for that, according to the rules, is if it happened within 5 laps of the race end.

It wasnt close. I've seen drivers almost wheelbanging in the pits and not even have a investigation started. Massa was way clear of Sutil and he didnt even had to change line. Nothing to see IMHO.

"The stewards deemed that although Massa was released from the pits in an unsafe manner – breaching Article 23.1 of the sporting regulations – he gained "no sporting advantage".

They therefore issued Ferrari with an official reprimand and a 10,000 euro fine."

Presumably, then, when drivers fail to hit their pit speed limiter and pass the line just a fraction over the limit, but gain "no sporting advantage" they won't be doing race penalties for that either...

I am very disappointed. There weren't any real overtaking in the race and noting properly dramatic happened (Massa vs. Sutil wasn't really that close, Räikkönen messed up and injured the fuel guy and Nakajima took Alonso out, that's basically it).

Big huge meh. I hope the race next year will be better.

(I may be biased against the GP due to Alonso's early retirement, though.)

Dave, you're getting confused here between team and driver.

The Team released Massa, he didn't go himself like Raikkonen did. It's the teams responsibility to hold Massa back if there is a car coming. Hence the fine. Massa did nothing wrong.

Now, if a driver comes into the pits hot and over the speed limit, then yes, he will get a penalty i.e. stop and go or 10sec stop and go - can't remember which.

That all said, tongue was right, i've seen a few incidents where nothing has happened, but the right course is to penalise the team and i'm glad. Ferrari seem to be slacking lately, not that I support teams, I myself prefer to support a driver. I'm suprised Kimi wasn't smacked with a fine for hurting his mechanic.

The rules make no matter if this is team or driver - penalties have been applied in the past for an infringement like this and they did so in the GP2 race beforehand.

These punishments are not there to be applied only when something happens, the punishments are applied as deterants so that they don't happen in the future to ensure the rules that are there, for safety purposes, are adheared to.

maybe ferrari should revert back to the lolipop system.
iirc each pit crew member has a button they press when they are finished and when all buttons are pressed a green light comes on and the driver goes. This makes no acccount of other stuff thats going on in the pit lane

Like I said, one rule for Ferrari, one rule for everyone else.

Yes of course... Such bull. First of all, this isnt a ''offence'' any driver has ever been punished for in terms of points so I dont see why now that suddenly should happen. Only if you like to blow up things and secondly there are other teams that got away very good with some incidents that should be punished alot heavier than they did. A hamilton crashing into the back of the leader in the pits when he is standing still with a red light just name a example and only get a 10 grid punishment (the point gap could have been alot closer than the 13 points it is now) and than we have you calling for stop n go or something like that which would hurt Massa alot more than that 10 grid penalty would have done and Massa didnt even caused a incident.

Who's talking about points, he should of had a stop and go or ten second penalty at the very least.

Your argument means it's all right for someone or their team to break the rules as long as they score a point in the race, they should be OK.

Ferrari have always played by a different rule book to everyone else, this is nothing new.

If Massa wasn't to blame, explain why he was penalised and not his team and him blaming Sutil afterwards was a total joke.

I don't really see the fuss over what happened at pitlane, I remember cases in F1 where they've been actually close to crash on a pitlane (one leaving his pitstop in a rush, sliding his rear about 1 cm from taking the front wing of another driver coming behind) and no-one thought it should be investigated or punished

Pit Incidences

More like a red one. The Massa case is different though. Its not the drivers job to check out the other cars in the pits. The team decides when its safe to let hem go. You cant expect massa to see other cars coming when he can hardly turn his head and only see mechanics in his mirrors. Besides I dont even understand why people talk about this. It happens so often. Massa saw Sutil on time and Sutil didnt even had to steer away so really nothing happend other than them leaving close, which isnt really that uncommon.

The whole Raikonnen thing is just stupid. I dont know what is going on be he really doesnt seem to be focussed for the last few races. And what he did now is just stupid. He didnt even wait for the team to let him go, he just went off in a effort to come out in front of Heiki.

I thought the rules were there to make Pit Stops Safe & making sure the drivers knew they had to abide by them even IF there was no damage done? Going two abreast up Pit Lane is far from safe and what has Massa learnt? NOTHING ! Yes Massa should have got some kind of penalty IMHO. There is a similar rule in GP2 also for safety reasons and the FIA had No Problem applying it to Karun Chandhok So it seems one rule for Farrari and another for the rest, so what’s new Farrari think they can do what they like and this just proves it! The penalty was Nothing more than Lunch Money to them.

I do agree that Kimi seems to have lost the plot of late.
