Formula 1 - 2008 Season

Ahh, it's a rumour yes(although Santander, a Spanish Bank is moving from McLaren to Ferrari).

Still, doesn't detract from what seems to me as Ferrari supporting Massa better than Kimi.

Renault to review Ferrari pitstop data
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/080806064737.shtml

The pitstop where Kimi jumped Fernando was weird to me. Kimi made a mistake during the lap in which Fernando went in and still managed to jump him easily. Disclaimer: I have only watched the race live and I haven't seen my recording so my recollection may be patchy.

The pitstop looked quite normal to me.
I was quite schocked that he ended up in front of Alonso though since he made a misstake on Alonso's in lap.
But if he made a good in-lap which isn't unusal at all with a light car and Alonos made a so-so out lap, heavy car-cold tires, it is far from impossible.

If they really had a kick ass fuel-rig, why didn't they use its during the first pitstop to pass alonso then?

I have no idea. Usually when stuff like this happens, it is very close, but Räikkönen came out quite a ways in front of Alonso IIRC.

I have to watch it again, but it looked odd to me.

It did seem a bit odd at the time. Alonso (after Kimi's mistake) had a 4 sec lead when he pitted which seemed to turn into a 2-3 sec deficit when Kimi came out again. Then again we didn't really see Alonso's out lap.

I don't think Alonso had a four second lead, or even if he did, Kimi pretty much caught Alonso already before Alonso even went in.

Here are some official lap times:

lap Kimi Alonso
48 01:21,709 01:21,914
49 01:21,773 01:21,833
50 01:23,913 01:24,326
51 01:23,551 01:47,032
52 01:43,921 01:23,044
53 01:22,215 01:23,568

lap 50:
Kimi went off track, if we compare the time to the revious lap he may have lost about 2 seconds.
Alonso went into pit.

Lap 51:
Alonsos out-lap, seems to be doing about the same time as the rest.
Kimmi pitted, his in-lap seems to be about 1 second faster than Alonsos.

lap 52:
Kimmis out lap, the best outlap in the race, the only one who came close was Trulli with 1:44,800.

There's been a lot of discussion (and whining) about KERS. I think it has great potential due to the push-to-pass nature of it and combined with slicks and less wing, I think it will improve the spectacle with the cars not being so bad in turbulent air as they are now.

Mark Webber is afraid of being electrocuted by the KERS batteries and is cautious of the KERS intro, but he is perfectly fine with the firehazard petrol fumes are. I have no doubt they will make KERS safe because it is not totally unknown technology, it's just that F1 will make it smaller, more efficient and more powerful.

Ofcourse he is fine with petrol as the tanks these days are crash proof and wont burst when you crash so there hardly is a change of you catching fire. And even if it does happen fire doesnt kill you right away. You have your fire proof suit and the marshalls to help you out. With electrics you only have whatever kind of protection the battery has. No suit, no marshalls that can help you out plus moving when being electrocuted is kinda hard unlike when you are on fire. So yes electrics defenitly are more dangerous.

I think KERS is stupid. I hate its puss to pass effect and it just does not belong in F1. Something like this should be developed in things like 24 hour races, and they do. Toyota already say what is possible with the KERS ruling is already way out of date on what they use in the 24 hour races. So basically what is happening is that the FIA has teams spending millions on technology that isnt any use for the road anyway. Rather just open up engine development again (I wonder what would have been cheaper, teams having to build engines that last 2 races + KERS or just keep on developing the engine like they used to) and maybe add something in like fuel consumption. Atleast that would make sense for the kind of series F1 is.

Well, their suits can take quite high temperatures "safely" so the firehazard isn't that big of a problem, electricity however...

All that aside, he's an asshole. That makes the rest totally worthless. He ridiculed the sport.
I agree with. You talk about the way Hamilton was favorized last year, right?
:p

PS
AN Schumaher was Big asshole, who had stolen one of his titles by crashing his opponent intentionally. And tried that same dirty trick 2 more times.
He should've been ruled out of F1 for this.
Great pilot, no doubt, but he had no balls.

By doing what he did he showed he had balls. Its simple. If you want to win you cant be mr nice guy. And schumacher showed that he wanted to do everything in his power to win. That is why he became 7 time world champion and that is why many others dont even win 1 race. You've got to be a asshole to come on top. Not just in sports, but also in life.

Also I dont like that crap he should be banned etc. Its bullshit. Take Senna for example, nobody will say something bad about him but the fact is he want exactly that nice on the track either.

Stirling Moss himself that to win a world championship you have to be "a bit of a bastard" and I think both him and t_of_c are right.

Moss never won the championship but he did win peoples hearts and has reaped the benefit ever since. The best world champions do both, like Ali, the worst just win, like Tyson.

As for KERS, I think it is a dumb idea, you can tell from the outset it won't last, it is a gerry rigged idea to try and hide the inherrent problems the high downforce cars have. Reduce the downforce by a factor of 4 and put up horsepower by 1.5 and it will be far more entertaining and exciting. You can tell because reduced grip is when it rains and those are all the best races.

As for KERS in road cars, thanks, yet another thing to pay for and to pay for when it goes wrong. Cars will be being scrapped when they are 3 years old at this rate because it will be too expensive to fix all the electronics. For road cars you need to make them lighter, it's as simple as that.

i was refering to alonso, but everybody could of taken steriods, do you admire ben johnson for having the balls to take steroids and being prepared to do what it takes to win ?

I'm struggling to even come up with a reason for KERS in road cars. If I want something that goes a bit faster at the push of a button I will just by a faster car and stamp on the accelerator and enjoy it as it keeps on going until I say stop, not when it's "energy burst" runs out.
