Formula 1 - 2008 Season

QUOTE OF THE DAY:

Itv's pre-race build up Lewis in regard to his dads spin in the porsche

"how can you have an accident at 30mph" - pure class :D
Hahaha, holy crap. That is pure ownage. Thanks for the quote. :D

I liked this post race conference quote:

Q: (Michael Schmidt – Auto Moto und Sport) Robert, did you realise what happened on your left side when you were waiting for the lights at the pit lane exit?
RK: Yeah. First of all I heard a big shunt and then I saw Lewis over the rear wing of Kimi. It was a similar situation to last year when we pitted under the safety car and there was still a red light (at the pit lane exit). Last year Fisichella and Massa went by, I stopped as the first car. This time I stopped side by side with Kimi and after a few seconds Lewis came flat out and crashed into him. I have to thank him that he chose Kimi and not me.

Kubica, you lucky SOB. :)

You get DQ not drive through if you went off on the red light. I remember Montoya did it few years ago.

The rule isn't quite clear on that. I seem to remember someone did get a stop and go penalty instead of a black flag for the same offence this season.

Massa and Fisichella got DQ'ed at this very track last year for that offence.

s'cuse my ignorance, but is there something special about Montreal and the pit lane exit ? Either it's the only track which regularly requires use of the red-light at the end (and the drivers just forget to watch out for it) or the red-light is so poorly positioned that drivers are forever missing it (Massa, Fisi and of course Rosberg.

It's more like there's something special about Montreal and having safety cars during the race...

Are you sure that the penalty didn't come for entering the pit lane before it was allowed.

I went to my brother's apartment to watch the race, but we had a problem with the cable, and we could only hear the sounds, but no picture, then suddenly five seconds after Hamilton hit Raikkonen we got the picture aswell... too late...

Kubica has been really good this season, Heidfeld looks like an amateur compared to him.

Finally explanation to what happened, Hamilton, knowing how FIA keeps him as their golden boy and messiah and what not, clearly thought the blue lights were there for Räikkönen & Kubica, they had stopped just to let him pass because he's always so fast

:D

Whitmarsh slams severe penalty

McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh has questioned why Lewis Hamilton was handed such a severe penalty for his Canadian crash, while Kimi Raikkonen wasn't punished for his Monaco incident.

Following Sunday's Canadian GP, Hamilton was handed a ten-grid slot penalty for the next race in France after he failed to stop for a red light at the end of pit lane, crashing into a stationary Kimi Raikkonen.

"It's disappointing," Whitmarsh said of the penalty. "It's a decision the stewards have made so we've got to now make the best we can out of it."

However, that doesn't mean the McLaren CEO agrees with the penalty, citing Raikkonen's lack of punishment for crashing into Adrian Sutil in Monaco.

Asked by Autosport if he felt Hamilton's penalty was severe, Whitmarsh said: "It is."

He added: "There was a different view taken in Monaco so we've got to work with what we're given."

No surprise as Ferrari support Lewis penalty

Not that this should come as a surprise but Ferrari are in support of the Montreal stewards decision to penalise Lewis Hamilton for his crash with Kimi Raikkonen.

Hamilton took himself and Raikkonen out of the race when he failed to notice the red light at the end of pit lane after the first round of stops, crashing into the back of Raikkonen's stationary Ferrari.

The accident earned Hamilton a ten-grid slot penalty for the French GP, which Ferrari have come out in support of.

"It was a serious mistake from Hamilton and I think the penalty imposed by the FIA is in line with it, even if it does not restore what was a lost opportunity for us," said team boss Stefano Domenicali.

Meanwhile a Ferrari official took a dig at Hamilton following the accident saying: "It was just like father like son."

The official was referring to Hamilton's father Anthony's crash five days ago when he drove a Porsche supercar through a hedge and into a playground.

That was a very dumb mistake by Hamilton. The pentaly is justified.

Luck was certainly on Massa's side when it came to getting freebies on some of those passes.

It's amazing how many of these drivers miss a red light. They can read a pitboard at 150mph but not see a light at 50. Perhaps it is a psychological thing where the expect it to be not on because 99% of the time during the race it is not on. Either that or they are just messing about with buttons going down the pits to set things ????

in fairness (or should that be gingerness) she looked much better on t.v (dontya just love SD T.V)

ps: I think she has a couple of good points

Heh. Lewis rams you from behind slowly, while Kimi rams you from behind wildly and very fast.

Lewis has rammed Kimi and Alonso from behind this season. Is a male-only escort? :D

Farmer's Grand Prix this weekend. Hopefully Fernando Alonso and Renault can finish a race for once and same with Nelsinho. Magny-Cours is after all the home race of Renault so the big-wigs are sure to be watching. Looking forward to it.

Also, Top Gear starts its 11th season on Sunday so in addition with Euro 2008 action, it will be an eventful weekend. :)
