Don't know that I've seen an offline method of obtaining the media update. Simplest thing would probably be hooking the console up to the internet long enough to get the update and then put it back.
Yeah, I'll try to get with it to a friend nearby. It's only that I've got crunch mode at work, can't get home before 10 PM, and he probably wouldn't really be happy to see me at such a time
Alternatively, if you have a laptop and a wireless setup at home, you can just hook up the laptop to the 360 via ethernet and then bridge the wireless and wired adapters in Windows XP, sharing the internet connection.
No wireless here, I'm about to move and can't bother to do anything network or computer related, I wouldn't have time to use it anyway, because of trying to manage a dozen things at the same time...
