Fact: Nintendo to release HD console + controllers with built-in screen late 2012

Another stuff to consider is that ATI GPU did well with microsoft adaptative tesselation bench, prior Fermi and the ubber tessellation level benchmark craziness.
N did really a bad job at launching the system everybody is searching for its failure whereas really few is known and few has been shown.
Imho they should announce something soon, core gamers have been deceived by the 3DS, I'm not sure they realize the level of suspicion they are facing.

So.... whats the chances that come next E3 we're going to find out than the Wuu supports Live? ;-)

Apparently there can be only one tablet controller for each console, for multiplayer the rest has to use Wiimotes. That is a serious flaw in the concept IMHO, however it's probably because of bandwidth and 3D rendering limits so makes sense.

Yes, that is a flaw - so much for hoping you could play 4 player local multiplayer with a separate screen for each player. This situation can't be due to rendering cost as the console would be able to render 4 views for split screen anyway.

And is the screen resistive? If so that's pretty shocking, you'd expect capacitive given the price of the system.

Furthermore the lack of shoulder bumpers and analog sliders instead of proper thumbsticks is not going to fly well with the hardcore crown who want to play COD and Battlefield on it.

^_^ I think you should be able to play those regular games with Wiimote or classical controllers.

The screen will just value add or introduce completely new experiences.

Only one screen is regretable but it's better than no screen. You can play using a stylus or your finger.

That Castlevania idea looked cool. I was thinking the opposite for a Metroid game or anything else involving a 3D map. It'd be nice to eventually do away with all huds and maps from TV screens.

Dating sims have a lot of potential to get creepier too.

Sure the screen will make possible completely new experiences, but the limited support for traditional controls will impact playability of core titles (especially shooters).

And I don't think the Wiimote and 'classic' Wii controllers do as good a job as a DS3/360 gamepad for playing COD, so no that won't help.

What I find interesting as a "non fps" guy is that it blurs the borders between fps and tps.
The shield pause could shine in rpg as well as in gear of war.
The down fall is that the solution is clearly intended for solo games ( or online) which is not relly nintendo like.
But there are plenty of possibilty ( including fps).

I can imagine a COD where you hold up the controller to see in night vision or have it used as the spy cam etc.

It has definite possibilities to be a constructive addition to the gaming experience and also the immersion levels. Especially if you can get different 'skins' for different games.

First shots of a Wii U exclusive game, Killer Freaks from Outer Space

It looks terrible.

Ubisoft noted that the Wii U controller’s double joysticks, gyro sensors, and accelerometer will work together to redefine the way you play shooters. While Ghost Recon Online showed off the awesome Crosscom 2.0 technology, Killer Freaks shows off a different form of multiplayer possibilities.

The game’s multiplayer mode only requires one Wii U controller to play. In the demo, the second player used a Wii remote with nunchuk. The one with the Wii U controller was the game’s “alien commander,” and used the tablet the gain a top-down view of the playing field. The commander then plans where the freaks will land and plans it out like a real-time strategy game with a time limit. The human character’s job is to kill all the freaks and essentially survive.

I wonder why this "City" demo hasn't been shown yet.
the City demo was SD video footage though not in-game rendered. It was just demonstrating how you can change the viewpoint with the new controller and so makes sense why they wouldn't bother to show it to us, as it doesn't really show us anything the other videos did not already convey.

For me, a revolutionary way to play FPSs in consoles would be to let me use a keyboard+mouse combo, and have all FPS games come with that control mode as an obligatory feature.

That alone could make me shift from the PC to a console.
That and.. be able to freely install new applications and games, and have a fully featured browser, and have a modular design so I can change its hardware, and...

Damn.. who am I lying to? I'm never leaving the PC for FPSs..

Its quite funny actualy, i recently have gone back to gaming on PC, but only with games that have support for gamepads. Couldnt stand Crysis 2 with M&KB!!

I really hope Nintendo impresses us with their online...
Online is pretty important for many gamers, and if it's free, I can certainly see people getting a Wii U rather than a MS system(I for one would, don't pay for Live)

A free online system is certainly also more appealing to families and so called non-gamers than a pay-to-play service

Also, if the rumored specs are true, do you tech heads think that Wii U will get polished up 360/PS3 ports of the games, or ports of the PC versions?
