SSD's cost a hundred bucks for the small ones. Just another reason those rumors are fake.
It depends.
A high-performance PC SSD is very expensive expensive, because it includes the memory chips and a high-performance memory controller and a SATA I/O interface.
But a
SSD doesn't have to be expensive. You can buy a class6 16GB SDHC for ~15$. High-volume costs should be around $10 for class 6 16GB SDHCs right now.
Nintendo could be spending something like ~$40 for 4*16GB eMMC modules, plus som $5 for something that does RAID0 between them.
For $45 (at launch, because that's very likely to go down in the mid-term) hey'd have a 64GB "SSD" with a very decent performance (although a lot lower than regular 64GB 2.5" SSD drives), with access latencies that are a lot lower than the regular hard drives in PS3 and X360.
Pair it with a SDXC slot for less important user data (up to 2TB.. should be enough, lol) and it should be good enough to cover both high-performance and high capacity requirements.
As for the rest of the rumours, the hardware looks like a compilation of all the rumours so far (except the controller display resolution, which should be 960*540, but that could be a typo). Showing the smallest side first (
640*960) could also mean that the display is in portrait mode.. and that's weird.
But yeah, the playable game demos line-up look more like a fan's wet dream, too good to be true.
I mean, all those E3 demos would be better than the entire 3DS line-up that we'll have for the whole year.
