European Console Sales 2010

Is Microsoft making a push in Europe to clear holiday stock?

I just saw a bundle with an Elite, Halo 3, Fable 2 and Forza 3 for 1798 DKK or $329. Our 25% VAT excluded that comes to $263.

Very good value for money.

Cheers

Yeah, that´s really cheap. Right after Christmas Game run a massive ad campaign (on billboards for weeks) here in Sweden on an Elite Bundle, but nothing close to that package, just Pure, Edge and some kiddie game. I've noticed recently that they dropped the price of the Elite bundles on some online shops, but they have not gone below the price of the Wii. Which I assume is the case with that bundle in Denmark, right?

Edit: Wait, why is this in the NPD thread, perhaps some mod can move it to the European sales thread?

Some sales data from the Nintendo financial report:

For Europe

Here´s the American version for comparison.

Interesting to note that the PS3 has more titles in both charts, which goes against claims of some people that PS3 owners are not buying games.

Also notes that Forza is still charting in Europe despite an october 09 launch, which is pretty impressive, it is sold at bargain price, but still impressive. GT5 will likely has its main market in Europe as well.

Interesting that MW2 sold more on the PS3 but BFBC2 sold more on the 360 in Europe. Must be the busy March release period for PS3 owners.

Don't really care about blockbusters. Super happy with Ubisoft's Just Dance and Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain. Congrats for cutting through Nintendo's Wii line up (for Ubisoft); and bringing something unique (if flawed) but very "personal" to a Top X sales chart (for Quantic Dream). I really felt attached to Ethan Mars and Madison Paige.

What about NSMB DS then, which was released in 2006 and is still not sold at a bargain price. Charted higher than Forza 3 too :D

Shocking news
looks like the UK market is not the massive market that dominates europe like it used to be, and esp if the pound does get devalued we could see france become the largest console market in europe this year!
UK 2.770 billion euros
france 2.420 billion euros
germany 1.533 billion euros

WRT forza, yes car games are large in the UK but theres also a forza bundle available, which will be squeweering(sp) numbers

What period do these charts cover? It wasn't long ago all three territories were at ~$11 billion a year. Has the US doubled its gaming market in two years?
From the site:
46 percent of that budget goes to the used game trade and online models including subscriptions, virtual currency, microtransactions and digital distribution

So it's %54 of that for new games, were your numbers for new games only?

Also how come europeans don't play more? They're the ones with 36-hour work weeks, in the US, it's much different.

36 hour weeks? lol! I think that's just for promo's to make it look like life is easier!! I've never worked a full time job that has been less than 40 and most stretch over 50, some have even been 90+.

£3.7billion is 4.5billion euros not 2.7billion.
true and even more shocking is
2.420 billion euros does not equal 3.560 billion euro's

i.e. Im only counting console sales( ignoring mobile, MMO's etc)

same with shifty, the $11billion was prolly also only the console part, the $25billion is the whole lot.
thus the US console part is $15.12billion (thus $4billion growth)

The link only says 11 billion for software sales. Doesn't say what type. But then if they are only accounting for new games, how does that track with these numbers that have Europe down for ~11 billion for all revenues? That suggests everyone in Europe buys new and there are no other markets!

Not everything is Europe related I know, but I thought it was convenient to have it all in one place, Mods, feel free to spin off anything if you feel like it.

I dont know many people who work more than 37hr week to be honest. I do a bit of out of hours monitoring and pop in on the odd occasion if a server goes down or something, but its all double pay beyond 37hrs so its quite welcome ;) Between me and you i look forward to one of our datacentres going down totally

Some data for France (from here).
Instal bases:
Nintendo DS: 8,8 millions
Nintendo Wii: 4,3 millions
Sony PSP: 2,7 millions
Sony PS3: 2,3 millions
Microsoft XBox 360: 1,8 million

For 2010:

Nintendo Wii: 325.000
Sony PS3: 292.000
Microsoft XBox 360: 155.000

On top of it the PS3 have been the best selling consoles in more than 10 weeks so say expect it to beat the Wii for 2010.
