What are polar lights?

Thing like this

heh this would be the simplest case :) But I thought that it couldn't be that simple and poke polar :D

Because this clearly needs more discussion:

The general term for the phenomenon is "aurora."

"Northern lights" or "aurora borealis" are standard ways to refer to the aurora in the North, while "Southern lights" or "aurora australis" are standard ways to refer to the aurora in the South.

"Polar lights" isn't used, but it's pretty intelligible.

watched a couple of videos. the IQ is less than the shots we saw earlier. Not terribly less, but visually less without needing to squint to see it. There are many aliasing artifacts when you look at the other cars go by, quite shimmery and occurs often.

The rear view mirror is missing a _lot_ of models, trees, or generally environment. Also it' lacks AA entirely in the rear view as well.
I found the cars to look darker, or have much harsher shadows than it should in pure blue sky sunlight?

I did manage to catch poor aliasing issues in the power lines from time to time, but overall, I found it to be really good.

For reference I watched the Hennessey Venom GT in Canada video

Overall game looks amazing though, great sense of speed in this game.

Driveclub is the product every jaded reviewer is going to hate because its just a standard racing game

I think reviewers are going to rate it lower in every aspect than horizon. Maybe even hugely so. Weather wont be at launch so currently so graphics wise its hard to give anything special over horizon aside that it dosent have obvious pop-in but it has more aliasing

The reason I'm far more interested in FH2 over DC is because the former is open world, which for me adds a huge amount of variety and replayability. Based on what I've seen of DC, I'd be surprised doesn't get scored higher on graphics. It's one beautiful looking game :yep2: Not saying that FH2 isn't :nope:

We can't speak to review scores since none have been released yet.

If racing is a ton of fun in DC, menus are good, and it's easy to get in and out of, has deep replay-ability I don't see why the game would do poorly in reviews.

DC not having replays or photo mode might ding them though, as well as the general in-ability to go backwards- game is a little too quick to reorient you to race again.

The interface is absolutely key. My biggest frustration with many driving games (don't mention the original Motorstorm!) is the time hanging about in menus between races :runaway:

The hard reality is that we've been gushing over the graphics for months but at the end of the day if the game isn't very good, the reviews will reflect this and probably punish it even more since all this effort (plus delay!) went into the graphics and not into making a good game.
I really don't think this will be the case as Evolution wouldn't be able to make a really bad racing game if they tried.

open world, which for me adds a huge amount of variety and replayability.

I have the opposite opinion after playing many open ended racing games. The real issue with all of them is the travel time between "missions" and the repetitiveness of the environment. The only open driving game I ever liked was Burnout Paradise because driving to the missions was as fun (if not more fun) as doing them. That game also had a great mechanic for acquiring new cars.

Being a sim fan, I have zero interest in open-world racers. It just doesn't make sense to me and I don't find it fun at all personally.
