And nayh, Konami All Star Fighter aint out yet, but im sure after lookin at DOAO, they could have done the MGS2 rain MUCH bettAr!

DOAO != MGS2. Konami's job wasn't only to replicate the rain in that particular MGS2 scene, but also all the other things going on at the same time (reflections, AI etc). Just because DOAO has similar impressive rain effects doesn't mean all the other factors are equal to what MGS2 has to push at the same time. Sloppy port or not, only Konami knows how good the port really was. Your comparasment makes little sense.

I think the whole idea of online beat-em-ups is a little sad, but I havent tried ANY online game so far (still living in the dark ages here) so I aint an expert on the field.

But I gotta say one of the greatest appeals of one-on-one beat 'em ups is the way after losing you can literally beat your friend up (or vice versa). On the flipside the gloating that comes after panning a mate cannot be replicated online by mere words or yells down a microphone (cos the reprisal in real life is usually a few punches to your arm..heh).

Perhaps I have violent mates - or I enjoy beating my mates up, I think it is the latter. ;)

 @ the trailer! This be the game DOA2 was once!
The 2nd half, the rain stage, all i can say is that, shame on Konami for their sloppy MGS2 port.

Do you honestly consider DOA Online a port ?

I don't. DOA Online is using the DOAX engine that was written for X-BOX.

And BTW, Konami does not have a fighting game yet (AFAIK).

A few years back, Konami had a high end arcade hardware designed in part by IBM. The hardware was called Cobra and they made a fighting game like Virtua Figher for it.

Just gpt to see a DVD quality trailer of MGS3. Pretty amazed about the water in the jungle (the small areas due to the rain). Pretty much reflects everything above.

Sloppy port huh? Well according to Konami in the Making of Metal Gear solid 2, the reason why PS2 runs the tanker scene at twice the speed as Xbox is because PS2 has "certain hardware advantages" over Xbox. This coming straight from Konami.

But anyway, nothing has and likely never will top MGS2 tanker as far as rain. This gen anyway, I'm sure a PS3 MGS would completely run it over.

Not only does it look incredibly realistic, it acts and feels real too.

Oh and please.. the Tecmo > Konami thing is just incredibly childish.

From what I've heard, Capcom v SNK 2 E.O. is more along the lines of "relatively lag-free" than "utterly flawless." There are been definite horror stories, and most people don't care about a bit of delay every few matches anyway and shrug it off (since they can just keep on playing limitless amounts of times anyway), so I think this genre in general will be a bit twitchy and ISP-dependant. I have plenty of confidence with Optimum Online to give me solid performance, but if people are on sub-par providers (or on satellite), I rather expect their experience with these games to be sunk. It will hurt all other games as well, certainly, but the split-second timing of fighting games make you hurt much more from even short spikes.

As for DOA in general, I rather stick it with Bloody Roar, in the fun/pointless fighting game category. They look good and are fast and smooth, but don't really have much depth or tech to them. They're above the likes of the X-Men game and MK:DA, but that's not a very hard thing to do. ;) The top-tier games haven't shifted in a long time, with Soul Calibur moving in to join Tekken and Virtua Fighter. (I'm talking about 3D fighters only here, of course. Street Fighter is its own beast. ;) )

At any rate, online play is certainly a great enhancement for games like this, and I can only hope the habit spreads.

Meanwhile, do you perhaps think there might be a TINY bit more technical barriers to overcome porting a game the size and nature of MGS to recreating old games on an existing engine that was not a port at all, Chap? Heh...

Looks great. I prefer the rain from Panzer Dragoon Orta the most as it comes down in flurries, changing direction with the wind, while seeming to take illumination from the ground fires. Best of all, when you're riding into the wind and your dragon decelerates, you match up to the vector of the raindrops for a moment and can see them just suspended in mid-air. Rain and other small, moving particles work best in proscan since it takes definition and picture stability to really make them stand out.

Their answer to Model 3! The said each board was specified for 1mpps and that five could be linked together for 5 million polys.

Their fighter, Fighting Bujitsu (Fighting Wushu), and their racer, Racing Jam, used just the single board configuration it appears. Cobra was said to be significantly less expensive than Model 3, but it came out too late.

What a childish and fanboyish thing to say chap. You do not bring balance, you´re a fanboy that disrupts inteligent conversations.

Anyway, I hold in high regard Team Ninja´s ability to create fantastic graphics. DOA2 at the time was breathtaking, DOAXVB, DOA3 and Ninja Gaiden are great examples of their talent.

However, they lack "focus" as chap loves to say, because they don´t dedicate enough time to create a compelling fighting game with their DOA series and dedicate far too much time in the graphics department. Tekken, VF and SC are much, much better fighters than this fun, but shallow game.

Chaphack, DOA is extremely shallow, & no you don't have to be hardcore to realize or recognize this. Team Ninja is very accomplished both visuallly & technically. Would I place them above Konami? No. When they can produce a game as complex & with as comprehensive effects as SOL & MGS3, we'll talk. A 2 person fighter no matter what the effects, are much easier to exploit. Sorry, they're simply not in the same league. We'll see what Ninja Gaiden has to offer, although it does look like your basic hack & slash.

What is inside that board anyway ? Remembering the two games from along time ago, Model3 still have the edge IMO.

Lazy8s, either you're an amazing repository of utterly random chip facts, or you're a Googling professional. Either way, good job! :p ;)

Well, system16 has plenty of information about the Cobra system and its games.
Howeve I have seen Racing Jam running on real life and the difference with Daytona USA (to say one M3 game) it's very noticeable...

Ha ha ha ! You guys are resourceful.

I haven't follow the arcade scene for many many years already.

NG, DOA Online will be beautiful technical showcases on X-BOX, like DOA3.

It will be a bonus if you find the game play interesting for you.

Whadda piece of crap fighting series. Btw, how can anyone take online fighting seriously, internet lag is just going to KILL this genre, which relies on split-second timing.

I haven't had the oppotunity to see how good/bad the lag affect fighters.

how is it Grall?

Yeah how is it Grall??

I heard that Capcom's online fighting game has no perceivable lag whatsoever... ;)

Wooooah! Why the DOA hate? I think it sure isa damn fun fighter. And that what be matters when you play your games. You aint need 3421 different combos/moves for a fighter to be fun, DOA has enugh even then.

DOA rox mulitplayer, and i wont put that being just the boobies and assy nor the 3D! It is just so fast, instinctive and reactive hit and play type of game. Only VF can match that level of intense hit-and-register gaming.

SC and Tekkan = sloooww.. :? ~~zzzz

Where is the DOA hate that you are talking about ? I can only see comment and opinions.

DOA is fast, but the fact it is just another fighting game without the boobies and gals, its graphics and the bouncing gals are its major strength.

SC2 is also great. Please don't lump it with Tekken.

Apart from VF, no other 3D fighters(i played) can match DOA reactive hit and go hand combat. I wouldnt put it more than eye candy strenght. ;) It is just fun with pick and play for endless hour of loudass mulitplay session.
