Did I mention I got a job?

I didn't think anyone was making a dig at me and I haven't been offended by anything said, if that helps any. :)

They hired me originally to be a "closer", one who works until 11pm and then sticks around after until everything is cleaned up; but they now want me as their "opener", who is who comes in 2-1/2 hours before the place opens and gets everything ready for the day.

I like this a whole lot better. I get off around the time the kids get off school, so I don't miss a whole lot of their day. The kids gave me their official approval on hearing the news today.

A job you can put around your family life is rare thing to find!
I'm not that lucky, but my wife is working at the coffee shop where she can start and finish at the times our boy goes/finishes school. This is great because we don't need afterschool carer.

I don't want to, management has no appeal for me. I'm a great soldier, but a crappy general. :p

I think they like me. The lady who trained me at opening is leaving so they want me to take over her spot, they're curious if I'd be interested in working six eight hour days a week regularly.

As a time filler, two years ago I was the head chef in my own resturant\bar. Gave it up when the second sprog arrived. It's hard work, long hours. But very, very satisfying when you see people really enjoying the food that you have created and cooked yourself.

Now I'm back in computers on a regular work timetable. But I do miss the cooking!!

Only having one day off a week sucks, I wouldn't go for it unless you really need the hours/money.
Agreed, I'm not going for it. I only want about 32 hours a week. I'll take a bit more, but not a ton more...I still need time with the kids.

Yeah, it is a kick getting compliments on the cooking. Almost makes all the work worth it. :)

Sprog?

I was just about to say that! Anyway, congrats on the job dig. I worked in a restaurant 10 years ago for two years. Like others said, it's hard work but you get to know a lot of people from various walks of life and the shared experience, especially in busy days, is quite amazing.

ZOMG, it took Diggie getting a job to drag LB back here!!!

OMMFG! He lives!

He is alive and well! Also working my ass off (not in the good sense) and i might have job news myself soon enough! :D
Sending you all a big gay hug.

PS: I'm always lurking, i'm just very stealthy. All those years lurking in darkrooms and all that.......

PPS: Plus, look at the effect i make these days when i do post... feels much better than the days when i used to shoot 125 - mostly ignored - posts per second.

Well I got a big gay hug out of it, I feel a lot better! :D

Restaurants that cater are a BIATCH to work during xmas season I've been discovering, my last few days have been absolute hell. I spend 3 hours in the morning getting all my catering orders out and then I'm 2 hours behind getting my kitchen setup by the time the place opens! I come in 2-1/2 hours before the place opens to do open my kitchen/do prep work/do catering...but we've got soooo much catering lately that it just consumes my morning and leaves me screwed for the day trying to just catch up and get the place setup for the evening crew.

Doesn't matter, this is my last day this week. I get the weekend off and I'm REALLY looking forward to it, just gotta put in one more hellday real quick before I can enjoy it. I'm hoping the days off incentive makes today a bit more bearable at work, I can't even imagine how bad it's gonna be when I go in a half hour from now. :???:

(Ignore my whining and don't think I'm quitting/giving up, xmas season is just this place's hell season. If I can survive this, I can survive anything there. ;) )

Nooo... gay ninja's
but why not we've already had gay indian chiefs, gay cowboys, gay motorbike cops and gay construction workers :D
speaking of them, theyre coming here to nelson in about 3 months, Im not sure if I should go and see them, I got a cd out of theirs, every song is the same same!, just different words. why they never wrote a song about being in jail escapes me.

Ahem.
This is where I don't repeat "restaurant jobs are hard work," right? ;)
