Depends where the sun is at in the sky. Everywhere is pretty sunny when the sun is high but as it's going up and down there can be entirely shadowed streets. I've seen it more in Chicago but I've been to Chicago a whole lot more than San Fransisco and there are more tall buildings crowded together in Chicago.

It will depend on your latitude and the time of year. The further south you are (SF compared to Chicago) generally the Sun is higher in the sky. In summer doubly so.
