That is impressive. But am I the only one who don't think Doom is an especially good looking game? It has it's own style, yes, but it lacks the attention to detail (IHMO).

IMO gfx fits good to the type of game doom is. I think it is a pretty game overall but perception of whats is pretty may differ a lot from person to person. The open sections of some maps in doom may look weaker thou. One thing i was thinking all the time when playing doom is the engine and art style would be excellent for a game like DMC.

Its one of the best looking 8th generation games, and it runs very well at it. Its certainly not a simple looking game by any means.

One thing that struck me in Doom Eternal was how good the LOD was. I played it on PC so I don't know if it's the same on consoles, but I didn't really see a bunch of pop in everywhere. When I played Wolfenstein Youngblood, which runs on the same engine and supports ray tracing, I was impressed by the performance. Turning on RT costs almost nothing, turning on DLSS costs basically no image quality. But, Youngnlood had way more LOD and pop in that Doom Eternal did. I don't know if it was because of the level design (Doom is more linear) or what, but I couldn't help but notice that the engine felt like it was made for Doom (because it was) while Youngblood felt more like a total conversion, at least on a technical level. I enjoyed Youngblood and played it a lot. Apparently there's no level cap in that game, I got most of the unlocks and was level 30 or something but played with some people online that were in the 900s.

40 fps is a good medium between 30 and 60, I hope more games make use of this. Personally, I found the 30 fps mode in R&C a bit jarring after trying Perf RT but 40 fps is definitely much better.

Well you need a 120hz screen otherwise 40fps is horrible.

This is pretty cool and a really good use of 120 display.

One of the reasons I think that MS now allowing arbitrary fps above 60 for vrr ebabled displays is a half step in my view.
Should've made it 40/45+ (think most vrr displays support that low)

I wish, I always sign up for it and never get an invite :p

Speaking of signups and invites, Did anything ever happen from Sony's PlayStation 5 signup campaign and marketing efforts from before launch?

Based on this comparison video of all versions of Doom Eternal on Xbox we can compare clarity (perceptual resolution).

Balanced mode, (target resolutions) at 1:25:
XSX (2160p) > X1X (1800p) >> XSS (1440p)

With RT for XSX at 1:30:
X1X (without RT 1800p) > XSX (RT 1800p) >> XSS (without RT 1440p)

X1X GPU is clearly superior to XSS GPU based on this and visually does perform pretty well against balanced mode of XSX and does even look higher resolution against RT mode.

Perfect performance across all consoles.
At 0:51 the balanced mode has a slightly higher resolution on PS5. I found about 1140p for PS5 and about 1100p for XSX.

EDIT: The guy has actually zoomed the image in his 4 images comparison so my pixel count is actually worthless. Sorry about that.

The balanced mode gets as low as that? That's supposed to be the highest resolution mode... doesn't sound right.
