Beyond: Two Souls

Yeah, it's unfortunate that games like this one become lightning rods for people obsessed with enforcing some narrow definition of what a game can be. I hate reading a review when it's more a semantic deconstruction of the title's right to exist than an examination of how enjoyable or enriching the experience was.

I know right. Some of the reviews I've read have missed the point completely, it's like they are only capable of comprehending a game by strict, unwavering, definitions. And if a game doesn't fit into this puerile rut they live in; then it's just dismissed as a failure. It's almost embarrassing...

Thats why I love it...thats why I love Journey......thats why I love Polynomial.......thats why I love gaming...there is and should be no definition of what a game can or cannot be...... The polarised reviews show it works for some and some don't get it at all. Its natural for any media. There are books I love, others hate, there are movies I love (Matrix Revolutions I love u ) others hate and there are many games I love ...and others loathe....but they should be there....and should be supported. Good to Hear Yoshida San personally assured David Cage that he is very excited about his next project. The game might be good or bad, but this genre needs to be fleshed out and continued.

Sad news is they don't know anything about the psn version, yet  ! I will wait for some time or get the disc finally.

Oh that. Well, I have the psn version and I haven't had any issues. Maybe its more evident for ppl with very fragmented HDDs. But Beyond is a very slow game n that regard, I don't think they would issues similar to an open world game where we can drive and fly like crazy. But who knows, they do have Bike and train segments.

Didn't bother me, but I did notice the issues described in that article (which as you can see is with a freshly formatted drive).

Haven't seen a single review actually critique the story itself with any depth. I see descriptions of the overall premise and plot, and short comments on the acting and dialogue. But is the story any good?

That's what keeps me from trying this game. I simply don't trust Cage as a writer. Sure, his games might go deeper than most other games, but if I'm going to play a game alla HR, which sacrifices gameplay almost completely for a close to linear, mildly flexible, story, it better be a Hell of a story. Otherwise I'll watch a movie or read a book.

If heavy rain was a movie, it would be on the cheap side, would hardly stirr much interest from critics. Now Beyond looks like is worse in my opinion. I find it hard to trust the plot of what seems like the most obviously archetypical girl who's just "different" and can't fit in, and has supernatural powers and whatever. Everything I've seen from the game screams cliche. Anybody playing the whole game can comment on the quality of it's story?

I mean, the guy's got Willen Dafoe. I will be thinking The Antichrist, which is an AMAZING movie, while playing a mediocre game.

No PSN release? What the hell....
Was disappointed on this as well.
Sadly the game uses disk quite lot and after few digital purchases the noise and slow loading is not something I like.
Released yesterday in US.
And some stores are selling within EU.

Started playing yesterday night, me with controller and wife was Aiden with a pad.
I was being nice girl with Jodie, but Aiden was having quite mean streak.. fun game.

I'm sure that Quantic Dream could collect some interesting stats on how players act in solo and duo modes..

Can we do that in the demo?

BTW, played the demo, I would say fail everything in The Hunted sequence and u r treated to two different scenarios :D . The end outcome is the same, finally, but it unfolds differently. I let the dogs catch me and the cops caught me. Gotto the bike in the ned , but in a different way. Similarly, later I did not protect Jodie when she rams the bike through the roadblaock. The swat team caught her and we skipped the whole Bakertown sequence !!! We did screw them up anyways, but in a very mellow way.

They have catered to alternate consequences, like in HR, but I don't think many will see them as the QTEs are too forgiving and hardly would anybody fail unless on purpose, like I did in my second playthrough.

One thing I did not like in the demo was that there was no way to play with dialogue as the demo was basically an action sequence. But i had fun playing around dialogue choices in HR and hope I can do that in Beyond too.

playing it yesterday, while I do enjoy it but I hate that the whole game is split into tiny portion and have random time jump. It worked for HR because it switchs between character but not this game. Unless the later part in the game is more consistent I think this game need a proper director's cut release.

Gamersyde's review : No spoilers and some sensible journalism:

When all is said and done, Beyond: Two Souls is for us a case of love at first sight, no less. As subjective as it may be, David Cage's new game is clearly among the best experiences we've had this generation, giving the Playstation 3 another jewel for the players to cherish. As imperfect as the game is, it does everything so much better than Heavy Rain that those of you who enjoyed Quantic Dream's previous title should be pretty happy. Whether in terms of storytelling, plot, graphics (we've never seen in-game characters who look so real before) or even gameplay mechanics, Beyond improves over everything the studio has ever done before. There are obviously some flaws, which we've chosen not to mention as they were very minor to us, but at the end of the day, the time we have spent with Jodie Holmes will remain in our memory for a long time, if not forever. Some hardcore gamers probably won't embrace Cage's vision, which we think is normal considering that appealing to everyone is close to impossible these days - after all, not all gamers like car racing titles or RTS, however good they may be. That being said, if you have an open mind and accept to embark upon Jodie's journey, there is little chance you will be disappointed by what Beyond has to offer. Take your time, let yourself be carried away and overwhelmed by your emotions. Quantic Dream's new creation is about the choices you make, the paths you take, and they will differ from your friends' on a more or less important level. To sum up, Beyond is another proof that the legacy the PS3 is leaving to its little sister is of great value and it holds the promise of even richer tomorrows in terms of gaming experiences. What more could we possibly ask for?

By the way I picked up my copy today of Beyond: Two Souls. Hopefully I will find some time to play the game very soon. At the moment I am busy playing Final Fantasy XIV : A Realm Reborn...
