After Heavy Rain I wasn’t excited for Beyond at all. Heavy Rain felt so boring and contrived to me because I couldn’t give a crap about the characters, the only upside is I got the ‘Shaun!’ bug at the end (if you’ve never seen it is worth a watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t0uCWjQ6Og) which had me in tears from laughter but somehow I don’t think that was the intended effect. Cage’s problem, with both Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy, is that he thinks that if the in game character cares about something I will too but without properly establishing the character as a person I have no way to get emotional invested in their experience. It is too bad too because with better writing these games could be really great. I can only imagine having a season of The Wire or a remake of the TNG game A Final Unity done by Quantic Dream and what a trip that would be.
That being said, I’ve read a few interviews about Beyond and it does look like they are working more on the characterization side of things so I’ll prob pick it up when it comes out. Assuming I can tear myself away from Hearthstone by then D:
