Arstechnica Reviews the PS3

Great, Sony decided not to copy one of the, if not the most annoying "features" of the 360.

Yeah tell me about it. I cant tell you how many times I saved my PS1 games by opening the lid and putting the disc back in after a disc read error only to be able to save, and then clean the laser XD Glad to know I can do it on the PS3 as well now :)

That was probably my biggest complaint about the 360. I lost so much progress in Dead Rising over it.

How in God's name did they screw up the no background downloading thing? That alone will stop me from EVER downloading anything from them. "Hey, lets make them all sit through a loading bar for 3 hours", great job Sony.

And for me, that is the first time I heard of controller sync problems. Has anyone had this happen? was it durning a game?

ehm, i didnt hear you complaining when the xbox360 had the same feature..? its after months they updated the firmware to enable background and multiple download

Pretty sure this will be fixed via an update.

I hadn't heard about this problem for the 360 until reading the article. It is an absolutely horrendous problem to have and it is good that Microsoft fixed it after a few months. But it is even worse that Sony was aware of the problem and still did not fix it. At least we can be sure that it will be fixed eventually.

Jesus Christ you guys want Sony to have a console on day 1 with all the upgrades on Day 1.

This is the first I've heard about this. That certainly should not be happening...

Its in a few threads, happened to me in resistance and on the ps store. So its not a software issue. Apparently people are speculating that its a Bluetooth problem. I guess BT has a history of these kinds of issues?

It happens for about 4 seconds. The last button your pressed (usually the sticks) sticks in place and you cant do anything until it comes back.

Oh come on! Certainly in this case yes they should have it in there on day 1. It shouldn't even need to be an upgrade. Why do Sony have to make it a later date upgrade just because MS did? They could have done sometime like this from the off.

Sometimes user requirements only come to light after it's in the wild, but with something like this, where your main competitor had to enable it, it seems silly not to.

Seems like another article filled with either strange complaints or ones that aren't even right (example: having to reconnect the controller between games -- you don't). This article is far better than others (NYT/Time articles!), but it still has some complaints that don't make sense.

*Sigh* Software companies have finite resources. You can't fix every single bug and include every single feature on day 1.

Bobbler, Im not sure but I think people are saying you have to reconnect the controller after playing PS1 or PS2 games. Not sure though.

Believe me I would have bitched about that but of course you assume I got my 360 at launch, I have only had my 360 since July/August so that was enabled from the start, and i honestly didn't even know it was like that at the beginning.

It's a horrible oversight and they better fix that ASAP

No mckmas I didn't expect Sony to have a console on day 1 with all the upgrades but I didn't expect that they would launch without what I thought was a standard feature. We have what Sony has touted as a media center of the future with a fancy parallel processor that can stream 48 hd thumbnails at the same time, play next-gen games on a next-gen format, cooks breakfast...etc - yet you can only download while it is your single task...yeeeeeeeeesh. I was very surprised to find that the 360 also lacked this. It has to be fixed soon either way.
