Thinking more about it, this kind of attack may be less effective on users who don't have massive WAN and LAN bandwidth. 700MB probably comes in more or less instantly on their network. A normal user on a normal network may notice that the file is taking a long time to download and get suspicious.

I should really do this. And it should be the default setting. Having file extensions hidden pretty much just makes people dumber for no reason.

BTW this has been making the rounds, I can confirm it works. Explorer becomes far more 'snappy' when you do this trick, which basically breaks the navbar (with the cut/paste/share icons) for that session. So not loading that drastically speeds up explorer.
