It's probably got a really good shot and again is ahead of pace so far by a large degree. After 3 months, 3.9m (shipped) vs 1.5m IIRC.

Comparing one supply constrained console to one stuffing the channels in the first few months is going to make for lousy predictions over 7+ years.

Though true, MS is moving TF-bundles quite nicely along with other deals/promotions, however the current sku (non bundles) sales are very stagnant though.

Yep I agree. they're both well ahead of pace.

But it's the fact XO and PS4 will split the market to some degree (whether 70/30, 60/40 etc) will possibly prevent one of them from eclipsing PS2.

It's worth noting there is no Wii this time though, which is a huge chuck of sales up for grabs.

.
Most of the Wii crowd are gone, forever lost to mobile/social.

Also I believe the console market will see a large reduction this generation, the PS4 might be able to match the PS1 but XB1 is likely to do ~40-60% of 360 LTD sales, the Wii U will remain niche and will be lucky to get over 12mil LTD.

I thought those no longer existed? All non bundles now include Forza 5. I haven't seen a non bundle since early March when they announced it.

The areas of Michigan and Chicago that I visit, still have plenty of standard editions sku's available for sale (Walmart comes to mind). It's just up to the customer to be informed that one sku (bundle edition) has a game, the other doesn't, and usually at the same price ($449). But seeing as inventory is quite high with non bundle units, it's a positive indicator that customers are aware of the bundles as being the better deal.

Walmart Forza Edition: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Xbox-One-Console-with-Forza-Motorsport-5/35669540

FYI: I have seen standard edition sku's within the Michigan and Chicago areas go as low as $399 at certain outlets as well.

Hmm, I have read about Microsoft reps that go around and slip Forza codes in the "standard edition" and slap a sticker on it.

If you think about it this is a necessity, otherwise you either have to cut the price or nobody will buy them, either way an unappetizing outcome.

So there may be some standard editions out there that slip through the cracks, but it shouldn't be widespread.

Links? Sounds like some old school Ninja $h**. :LOL:

I saw the same posts and Amazon's standard edition comes with a FM5 code. They are trying to add value to generate sales. They even did the conversion from standard to bundle with some TF bundles. Add the game code and slap a sticker on the box. This lets them cannibalize their own in-the-wild stock so they don't have SKUs that won't sell. The whole things shows the desperate position they are in IMO.

That's what thought as well. If you look at the Forza bundles boxes the only difference between it & the standard edition is the small sticker on the bottom right corner. As for the standard edition at Walmart, it says there are some at my store & I was just there this morning & all of them had the Forza bundle. If I use the Forza bundle link it doesn't show any available at any of my local stores. I don't think you can use the online sites to gauge if there are "standard editions" still available.

I can't say how well the Forza bundles are doing, but the Titanfall bundles are doing quite well from what I hear.

They bundled their biggest title and cut $50 off. If it was a $560 bundle and doing well they might have something to brag about. Right now they are trying their hardest to move units, $110 of lost revenue hard.

At least with Forza they don't lose as much money, but demand for FM has always been low. It's #110 on Amazon with the $50 off. TF bundle has slipped to #15, it seems the $50 code is no longer offered with TF. I wonder if this is just Amazon or not, it will be interesting if the two SKUs trade places or if TF is worth more to buyers than FM5+$50.

I'm able to pick one (or more) within my area, Walmart having plenty and Micro Center having a handful. My brother-in-law had to replace his already (no hardware malfunction, kids issue), purchased the standard edition since he already owned Forza. But he was given a 3 month live card on purchasing the standard edition.

I don't deny that. I'm pretty sure March NPD isn't going to be a landslide victory for either side. However, MS is doing everything it can to push units, and most of the channels that were packed back in mid-February are moving quite nicely because of MS feeling the pressure. As for Sony, supply is starting to pickup in certain areas, but most vendors are still fighting for greater allotments.

Itt's too bad Sony screwed up with supply last month. All console sales were up, from 47%-80% from tax credits, the PS4 could have sold over 400k, but instead they were down 0.7%. I wonder if those people held out for March?

Good post from GaF.

Platform: Jan Results -> Feb Results | Percentage Change MOM

PS4: 271K -> ~269K | [-.7%]
XB1: 141K -> 258K | [+83%]
3DS: ~97K -> ~151K - 156K | [+56% - +61%]
PS3: ~53.5K -> ~103K | [+92.5%]
Wii U: 49K -> 82.5K | [+68%]
360: ~48.5K -> 114K | [+135%]
Vita: <17K -> ~24K | [+41%]

It's funny people keep hanging on to this Feburary was close theory when you look at these percentage increases. Every single console rose in sales to include the lowly Vita. For anyone to look at this and conclude the XB1 and Ps4 would of been close in sales no matter the supply situation they would have to believe Ps4 demand imploded and it had no supply problems. Even if you assume that the Ps4 would of had the lowest increase there 41% that would of put it sales at 382K in Feburary.

With bundles you can't add stuff like that. I am thinking more about 90$ of lost revenue for each bundle sold.

In Europe the Infamous bundle (when it wasn't sold out like now :rolleyes:) was 440€, so 40€ more than the standalone PS4 which made Infamous 40$ (when the game is still 60€ at Amazon.fr). And also XB1 bundles contains just a download code so they save a few more dollars for the missing blu-ray and its box (when Sony bundles traditionally contain a real copy of the game).

Interesting. I think the PS4 could have easily moved over 450k if it wasn't supply constrained in February.

The Infamous bundle is £60+ more in the UK, so I don't think there is a discount on official bundles. Fact remains a free game is a lost full priced sale.

At this point I will not be surprised if PS4 sales surpass PS2 sales within the same 10 - 11 year span. It's already off to a good start and hasn't had a price reduction yet. Demand is there. I view the mobile market as putting pressure on consoles but believe they can be more complementary instead of a direct threat. Sony seems to realize this and is taking advantage of it. If Sony keeps doing what they're doing then they may end up being the dominant player in the industry again.

Interesting. Since I'm in Arkansas I assumed stock at Walmart was low due to demand. Maybe your area already chewed through all its Forza bundles & that's why they're offering a 3-month Live subscription instead? Doesn't sound like an official offer by Microsoft though. Also, it only retails for $25. Not good as a $60 game, but still better than nothing. Will be interesting to hear how they will follow-up for April. I don't think they can go back to a non-game $500 bundle again.
