Holy crap, hyperbole much? What games did you play on console? Or is this an xbox thing, having to wait an hour before you can play?
Every one of my games this gen was ready to play within 60 seconds without ever having to install anything. If it ever did, it was done in background while I play. I have a PC with a 780 and I still play 90% of the time on consoles. The same will be true for VR despite the fact that I will own both VR headsets.
Which, if anything, demonstrates all the more reason why MS would want to kill off threads like these
Yeah on PS4 you can play while downloading patches in the background, you just can't play multiplayer until the patch is installed. Plus games install in chunks and are ready to be played in usually 1-2 minutes or less. And for your already installed games, if you leave your PS4 in standby, the PS4 downloads patches automatically.Exactly. You can play PS4 games (or the actual game) while they are getting patched in the background. Hell, you can surf the PS Store for about 5-10 minutes and your game is patched. The largest patch I ever downloaded (7GB) took roughly 4 minutes to install.
This actually works automatically only for games that are played recently. Games that were not started in a while get patches when the game is started [local version is booted while patches get downloaded in the background].And for your already installed games, if you leave your PS4 in standby, the PS4 downloads patches automatically.
Do you know what the cut off is? I literally have not played The Witcher 3 in months (since I completed the main story line) and patches 1.10 and 1.11 were both downloaded by my PS4 automatically. They probably did this to preserve bandwith of the users. For example, if I had installed and played Witcher back in May, I would not like to download bigass ~10gig patch now if I haven't started that game in several months.
That would explain my experiences.I think it is the last ten games played, not time.
That's what it was on PS3. My understanding was now it's anything you've launched in the last 30 days. Maybe it's a combination of the two metrics.I think it is the last ten games played, not time.
I would also guess most people buying the $499 Halo 5 bundle are existing XB1 owners, the mega fans who will keep their original console as a secondary or sell it.
...
Well, given how console cycles work, the nice thing for them is they probably have 2-3 years where the number is guaranteed to grow as the XBO userbase does (contrary to a lot of the comments here, it's actually not selling negative consoles each month), and after that 2-3 years they can come up with some other BS..
So what are you saying then, that XboxLive numbers are going to be held up by new PC membership? This will be true in the long term, but I wonder whether it will be so in the short term, especially with many previous 360 gamers upgrading to PS4 instead of the XB1 (assuming this MAU figure includes 360 gamers too - no reason why not).
Which is why I think it's funny they choose now to start reporting these silly wooly metrics instead of hw shipments. I think it's pretty clear that XB1 is not selling well outside of the US (and possibly UK).

Not so bad. It's been obvious from the charts France is between UK and Germany for Xbox affinity. Quite a few Xbox One games make the France weekly tp 5. I think a few weeks ago it even had #1 though I forget the game, maybe Forza 6?
