So this seems like a normal distribution of car brands to people?

http://www.best-selling-cars.com/japan/2014-full-year-japan-best-selling-car-models/

I definitely think some cultures are less open than others, and there's none more open than the "melting pot" USA. Since we are nothing but a mishmash of people from someplace else...

But I know, not this again...

And Apple for smartphone and windows for PC are dominant. You need to have a good product.

The OG Xbox kill the brand in Japan.

Brand is important if you remember Nielsen survey Xbox is a better brand than playstation in US. In UK Xbox is too a good brand but less dominant.

In rest of the world Playstation is a better brand in continental Europe they were able to beat the Xbox 360 with a 600 euros console with 1 year headstart for 360...

What are the prices of those cars versus European and American alternatives? What are the specs? Do import designs suit the poky roads and congestion and automated car-parks of Japanese cities? Japanese culture is very strong and clearly they'll prefer products that fit that culture, which are home grown as the home designers have the best handle on the local market. It hasn't anything to do with snubbing other nations though. eg. 75% of smartphone sales were American and Korean handsets.

The German brands have flourished in Japan, even as the Detroit 3's fortunes fade. Their downfall, says Ide: "lack of effort."...GM has factories in right-hand-drive countries, but their vehicles often don't fit Japan. Australia's passenger cars are too big; South Africa churns out mostly trucks; England's small cars find it hard to compete in Japan's crowded small-car market. India's operations are just getting started.

[...] It's a chicken-and-egg problem. It's often not worthwhile to introduce a right-hand-drive version because sales are so low. And sales are so low in part because there are no right-handers.
It's the wrong product for the market, or one where the local competition is so strong there's no need to go with anyone new and untrusted. I don't imagine US cheese sells as well in France as French cheese either - what's the point in importing cheese when the local produce is exactly what you want?

So, again, if MS made the right product for the Japanese market that had a competitive USP and good support making it a more desirable product, they'd get the sales. The lack of MS impact in Japan is because they are unable to compete there, and not the easy excuse of blaming the locals for being racist/nationalistic.

I obviously didn't mean literally! There's many factors brand loyalty seems to be quite a popular idea yet that swings from generation to generation.

The RRoD may have been an issue that affected loyalty, and as mentioned USA (like the UK) are very open to other cultures/ideas compared to other countries and that's their biggest markets.

American gamers are very Mountain Dew, Dorrito, Call of Duty, Madden minded gamers. These things were and are still synonymous with the Xbox name. Playstation has been associated with Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid, not so dude-bro.

And MS even acquired Witcher 3 marketing rights. Witcher 2 was Xbox 360 console exclusive.

Result: even in US 60% sold on PS4.

Doesn't that tend to track with the hardware ratios, 1.5:1 ?

No, I think the PS4 only has a ~700k lead in the US.

In that case I have two thoughts,
A) The marketing didn't work
B) The marketing worked, and the sales would have been even more lopsided than the 60:40 split for the first few weeks of sales without it.

It does not matter. Both cases lead to PS4 having more RPG audience.

Shipping cost (and time), small population size.
Mate my post is obviously sarcasm, NZ like all countries except for perhaps north Korea has taken part in globalisation
and there's none more open than the "melting pot" USA. Since we are nothing but a mishmash of people from someplace else...

Those Destiny numbers look close for a game that had marketing partnership with Sony... Anybody have an idea what sales are for both platforms including digital?
