Once again, they must be a verified vendor or distributor. Whenever you see this "Sold by Whomever and Fulfilled by Amazon... they are verified suppliers and vendors for Amazon. Miscellaneous mom & pop shops are not factored.

The scam was an an attempt to use the amazon website as a price reference for price matching at brick and mortar locations. I don't see how that listing could be solely responsible for PS4 movement back to where its historically been.... Besides the scam is down and we still see PS4 in the number 1 spot.

Edit:

If the choice is blame a scam or believe things are returning (for now) to normal I think its pretty clear which is more plausible. Besides there was a similar scam run with the 3DS a couple days ago yet that does not appear to factoring into its ranking...

Also as I noted, the green normal no-games X1 which at the time I clicked was only available via resellers starting at $391, a $41 markup, weirdly shot to #15 yesterday when I peeked in. And now has just as rapidly dropped off. There is almost no reason anybody would buy this SKU, and multiple big reasons why they wouldn't. I am sure it was related or a similar deal to what happened with PS4, probably with scammers trying the same scam on a different item before being thwarted by Amazon again.

How does one correlate a scam ad (which had no purchase button / nor add to cart button) with Amazon rankings? Especially one geared towards ripping off brick and mortar entities – not Amazon.

As I stated, GTA V had a nice impact on hardware sales for the last two days, especially the PS4. You know, God forbid someone buy a game console because of one game… because that never happens. :/
 
Whether you are emotional or not, Logic and reason favors that the scam affected PS4 ranking, for all the reasons I've already listed several times. Getting emotional about it wont change that.

If you even think a day or two of a few places change on Amazon really has any big picture significance to fight about, well, you're silly. I for one know it does not matter, the scam/rankings change is just idle tangential discussion as far as I'm concerned.

But we wont beat this to death as it's rapidly going down that road.
 
For the record I'd be very surprised if MS does not win November, the price difference should move the needle in their direction. As has already pointed out Sony's black Friday deals most likely won't be widespread enough to counter weeks of movement due to MS's aggressive pricing. And let's be honest here Sony is not in a position to take MS on in terms of price for all the reasons we've discussed in several threads.

I just checked the amazon rankings and I dont see WiiU or 3DS hardware in the top 100, as I said the 3DS has similar scam I think 1 day prior to PS4 price match but neither shows up in the rankings. And again the scam was over yesterday and PS4 still number one for consoles, if the relative ranking holds I think we can conclude the scam did not materially factor into the ranking.

Why would you "place an order" to get Walmart to price match. That isn't what it's about at all.

All you need to do, apparently, is show them the price, not prove you've already ordered it at that price, that's just stupid. "Erm, I've ordered this already, they have it in stock, and have probably dispatched it already, but can you price match it for me"

You are taking this too far Rangers, now you imply someone merely looking at the PS4 page affects it's ranking? I assume it's called the "best sellers" chart for a reason.

It's entirely plausible that people have been waiting for a GTA bundle, but with the positive reviews and marketing have been swayed to just order a PS4 now. The high sales of GTA stand alone game corroborate this theory, not sure anything will do the same for yours.

Where are the monthly charts on Amazon? I can only find hourly and for the year to date.

The fact the brand is more popular on PlayStation is important add that to the fact PS4 has a marketing deal in place for GTA V and it's quite believable to think PS4 will be boosted quite a bit more than XBO.

Interesting, I'm getting that ranger is alluding to the fact that if PS4 was $90 on Amazon many people would have attempted to purchase it despite its real world use as a Walmart scam. The transaction could have occurred still (hence the rank boost) and later be cancelled by the reseller? If people buy into Nigerian Prince, I don't see how they wouldn't buy into a $90 PS4 and think that these guys screwed up their pricing so I'm going to get in at this price and hold them to it.
 
But as had already been posted only verified sellers affect the sale chart meaning this scam would have no bearing on what we see in the charts.

Could be both, I'm reading from reddit MS retail employees that the $100 Xbox 360 trade in stacks, but that would be an in-person only thing.
 
How does the monthly Amazon chart look? It's possible that the Xbox One's discount caused it to have increased sales over the PS4 for a two week period only. Sony still may take the month in the US. If it does happen - and I'm not convinced it will yet - Microsoft are in a very difficult position deciding whether to keep the reduced price knowing sales will still lag behind the PS4, or increase it back again knowing sales will reduce further.

I wonder whether Xbox One is already being sold at a loss.

All of which begs the question, what can Microsoft do to make up the deficit now?
 
The scam clearly move it up, they were highly correlated. No game release would move the PS4 to #1 without a price change. Looks like Amazon removed that order I made for $90 yesterday. Boo!
 
those 3 weeks won't include GTA, I'd be surprised if that was extended to 4 weeks...but with MCC too it could just hold on for a little longer...I don't think there's a price advantage, it's a wash the last time I checked
