Analyst: PS4 sales slowed in August — Xbox One and Wii U both saw gains
In August, Xbox One sales were up 14 percent month-over-month to approximately 150,000 in the U.S., according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter. Nintendo’s Wii U saw massive growth of 111 percent year-over-year to 65,000 during the month. Sony’s PlayStation 4, meanwhile, actually sold worse in August than in July, but that doesn’t mean Microsoft’s console beat it.
“We expect PS4’s [August] sales to again exceed those of the Xbox One,” wrote Pachter.
Sony sold approximately 175,000 PS4s in the U.S. last month. That’s a 14 percent drop from the previous month.
“[PS4 still outsold Xbox One] despite the June introduction of a $400 Xbox One without Kinect and the August release of a $400 Madden NFL 15 bundle that includes a download code [for Madden], essentially bundling the game for free,” wrote Pachter.
Wedbush, which gathers its data by reaching out to retailers and content producers, estimates that Microsoft sold around 50,000 Madden NFL 15 bundles. That powered much of the system’s growth. As for Nintendo, Mario Kart 8, the racing game that has players driving around as Donkey Kong, Bowser, and other characters, is continuing to drive Wii U sales.
As of now, we're looking at for August...

if you get outsold by something, you dont close a gap
but I agree bad month all around
you've gotta ask yourself 'ok japan usually leads and they have now gone mobile' but is the west following? really?
I thought it might be interesting to look at XB1 sales as a percent of PS4 by NPD month
Nov 13 80%
Dec 13 105%
Jan 14 52%
Feb 14 96%
Mar 14 84%
Apr 14 58%
May 14 39%
Jun 14 73%
Jul 14 70%
August 14 84%
Average percentage (monthly percentages added up and divided by 10): 74%
Total life to date NPD Xbox unit sales as a percent of PS4: 81%
which you obviously havent understood rangersPretty simple concept..
He's talking about a different gap to you - the monthly sales lead gap. You're both right.which you obviously havent understood rangers
'Normalised' number to remove first months anomalous data:Updating my monthly tracking charts
Last month PS4 wins by ~60k IIRC. This month around 30k. Pretty simple concept.
A couple of things. One, I'm kind of surprised that the PS4 sold under 200k. That's not encouraging. Hopefully we see a north of 350k month in september and around 2M units for Nov/Dec. I think they'll need an official pricecut in early 2015.
XB1 Destiny (#15) has surpassed Titanfall (#16) on Amazons 2014 Best Sellers list.
