Hum, 9 million PS4 sold...

Interesting...

Microsoft's Phil Harrison On Xbox One, Kinect and PS4's Success: "Hats Off To Sony"

Asked about bridging the gap between the two console's sales figures (Sony report 9 million PS4s sold*, Harrison says Xbox One's figure is "north of five million") he says: "Some analysts will suggest that we are less than 5% into this generation, so there is plenty of market opportunity ahead of us.

*The 9 million figure was mentioned by Edge in the question directed at Harrison.

After a month on sale, Mario Kart 8 still sits in the top 5 on Amazon. That's some pretty darn good staying power.

Wonder how Harrison would feel if he saw the PS3 come into second place while he was at Sony and the X1 comes in second place to PS4 after he joins MS.

Maybe a bit snakebit?

Is he still based in London or did he move stateside to join MS?

I wonder how many Wii U units are being sold, because of MK8?

Or is the current Wii U user base just hungry for a good game... which MK8 seems to be.

Sony responded claiming that article was wrong. Their last reported sales number was 7 mil in early April.

They're probably selling 400k-500k per month worldwide since then based on USA sales. So I'd guesstimate maybe at ~8.5 million now. Maybe even less. But then again April may have been a bit above that pace.

If I'm not mistaken, we are exactly one week away from NPD report. This one will be fun.

Can you post June ranking for WiiU?

Unfortunately I suspect NPD is still two weeks away. Like everything else in video game release dates I suppose, they are always slow. The 10th is likely too early, it should be the 17th I'm guessing.

If the 2nd Thursday of the month falls too early then it's the third Thursday. Probably before the 11th or 12th is too early. Plus there's the extra 5th week. I should know the EXACT rule for NPD date, but just cant quite recall it.

Amazon hasn't sold Nintendo hardware directly for ages due to some conflict between them. So that nerfs any Nintendo hardware ranking. Something called the Wii U Mario and Luigi Deluxe set did place 59th for June through other sellers, though

Don't you mean third place, while he was at Sony?;)

Also, technically in terms of LTD XB1 is in third place globally, though that will likely end up 2nd when all is said and done.

Hardware sales have been up, but still pretty low compared to the PS4 juggernaut. Its been holding hands with the X1 lately. X1 sells a lot better in the US, but Wii U has been doing better in Europe and obviously Japan. Nintendo needs to capitalize the Chinese market if they are going to do any better than Gamecube numbers.

Who the heck put this chart together? Terrible how they presented the data using like colors on both sides but do not reconcile.

Here is another anecdote:
A colleague was selling his Xbox1, about 2 months old, at a severe discount: 350 euro, while he bought it at around 600+ euros. Other colleagues, who support Xbox 360, didn't want it...

Could this mean that even at a discounted price, demand won't go up?

anyway, here is the full story, for those who are interested:
A colleague was selling his Xbox1 for 350 euro's: it is the Titanfall bundle which has a Kinect, as well as Forza 5 and a football game..
Now I have a few other colleagues who are Xbox fans that waited out because they felt 500 euros was too expensive, but even they didn't want to buy the console apparently.
The selling colleague came up to me, angry and said: "why did you tell them that the xbox 1 will be 299 for the holiday?" So I explained that this is just my prediction and that I also predicted the 399 kinect-less SKU launch for Holland. "yeah, that's why they believe you".
Lol, so apparently I am an Xbox market analyst now :p

I explained to him that MS will probably realise there is little to no demand in our country, and that only a price cut can change things around, but that it's better to keep the console because there will always be games coming out and he might enjoy Halo or a new Gears of war in a few years. I also said that there aren't that many great PS4 games at this moment either.

So in the end: I kept an Xbox fanboy from becoming a PS-supporter :) My old fanboy-self would hate me, but I find peace in the thought that the Xbox fanboy is happy about his purchase again.

Do we think ps4 has hit 9 million yet?
I suppose its possible it would of had to sell about 650k a month since they announced 7 million.

9 mil sold... maybe, but I think still not.
9 mil shipped... easy.

The major games between early April and today:
- FF14
- MLB The Show
- Transistor
- Wolfenstein
- Watch Dogs

Not much, with MLB and WD being largest console sellers.

We might hear something (worldwide sales) maybe a week or so, after The Last of Us is released this month. I see Sony waiting for the big 10 million units sold milestone announcement, more than anything else.

I expect that they will mention sales of both TLOU Remaster and PS4 console at their pre-Gamescom keynote [mid-August].

Ya, I think it's possible but unlikely. I'm guessing it's around 8.4M sold, 9M shipped.

This was discussed on Gaf; The most likely outcome is that they are waiting for 10mil sold before bragging, so we won't hear from Sony when they hit the 9mil mark.

Could be. I was also thinking any announcement will necessarily reveal they've slowed quite a bit from the former 1 million per month pace, which they may not want to make public.

But yeah your thinking is probably better.

At current rates they might hit 10 million in September or October. And still have the big holiday season ahead. Not too shabby.

I think they'll easily hit 10M on the release of Destiny (so early September). The white PS4 bundle will give a nice boost. It's ranked 23 in June at amazon, and it's still ranked 49 in the top 100 (ahead of both XB1 SKUs). Sales will pickup leading up to release. Plus the huge marketing budget will be put to use. This game is gonna be massive, and rightfully so. The game is gonna be great if the alpha is anything to go by.

I can't fathom how a PS4 bundle not released for a few months is outselling the new $399 XB1 SKU, which also has extra incentives to purchase (discounts on controllers, gold cards, etc.).

With the TF bundle out of stock, even more people should be funneled to the $399 SKU and conversely if people are pre-ordering the Destiny bundle, that should funnel sales away from the standard SKU, but it is still holding strong in the top 10. Either Amazon is completely out of tune with the industry or MS should be real worried.

BTW the XB1 "Day one" SKU is still for sale. How many of these did they make?
