[360, PS3] Mass Effect 2 *(Spoiler Warning)

Well, EA paid alot for Bioware. :-/

And EA's John Riccitiello did mention on the recent earnings call at the start of this month, that Mass Effect 2 would be multiplatform, even tough a EA-rep did say they couldn't tell us more about it. (link to Edge Online article).

And BioWare's Miles Holmes said in a different interview that they were concidering Mass Effect for the DS, along with a few other games (link to 1UP article).

So it certainly seems plausible that it could come to PS3, in my opinion.

If EA bought the rights for the first Mass Effect aswell, they could perhaps even include the first one on the Bluray-disk, for a extra 20$ in a limited edition, that would be cool.. :)

Correct me if I'm wrong with any of this

The xbox 360 is a platform. The pc is a platform. IF you release a game on both platforms it would be multi platform as multi means more than one. Correct ?

Its a huge stretch to think that Mass effect 1 would go from an MS published title to the sequal being released on the ps3. After all Mass effect was allways planned as a trilogy and MS knew that from the start. They invested alot in adverts for the title. I highly doubt they would have made a poor contract allowing the second two games to go anywhere else .

Mass effect on the DS is another story all together . MS doesn't have a platform competing with the DS and I"m sure that MS doesn't care and it makes EA happy to get teh name out on another system

It could just be that MS didn't expect Bioware to be bought by another company.

After all Bioware was always a pretty PC centric company. Xbox and X360 are both fairly similar to the PC so developing for that as their console entry isn't much of a stretch.

Prior to EA purchasing them they probably had no intention of ever developing anything for PS3. However, I'm sure now that EA owns them there is going to be a lot of pressure put on them to release future games for all consoles when possible.

I just hope Bioware doesn't go down the toilet.

Do you know if those statements were made before or after EA bought Bioware, and it's IP's?

The remarks were made by BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka after EA bought Bioware. Obviously things can change, but we have no indication of a PS3 release at this time.

Any rumors regarding ME2 coming to PS3 are ridiculous. Microsoft Game Studios has contracts for an exclusive trilogy to their platforms. EA buying Bioware does not change anything

I don't think ME2 PS3 is terribly likely, but I think this is one of those occasions where we don't know a damned thing for sure. For instance, I've heard that MS' exclusivity contract is for 2 games, not 3, which was always odd considering Bioware has been saying that ME is a trilogy. Of course, at this rate the last game will be out in 2012 or 2013. Hopefully by then Bioware will have gotten the hang of UE3.

If that were true, they wouldn't concider making it for the DS. :-/

Microsoft dosn't do charity, by handing their IP's to Nintendo-platforms.

We know that Bioware used to own the rights to the IP, when EA bought them.
And when that happened: Microsoft announced that the first Mass Effect would not be affected the month it were released after the buyout, but the future of the trilogy were more uncertain.

I seriously doubt that anyone in Bioware made themselves contractually obligated to provide a exclusive trilogy, and if so they wouldn't be thinking about it for the DS allready.
If MS have come to an agreement with EA that MS should finance ME2, and 3, I think we would have heard it by now.

So my conclusion, is that I think this will end up multiplatform, but might be a timed exclusive.
Since, there obviously is much dodgery about the platforms.

I don't believe forum-people wich say there is a contract for an exclusive trilogy, without providing a reasonable source.

I wouldnt exactly say its ridiculous. If it was a definite exclusive, MS would have come and said it by now. Their silence speaks volumes.

Given that FFXIII will be out before this, I cant see this game having that much of an impact, but given the sales of the first one, EA are bound to push for a multiplatform release, as they're all about the money.

The question remains with FFXIII. So far there hasnt been a positively selling Jrpg this generation particularly not with Western gamers. FFXIII has an enormously positive pedigree, but its actual sales are still suspect. ME has sold well once this generation and should continue to do so as it is a highly prized rpg on the 360 and pc. I see no reason why or how the release of FFXIII would negatively impact ME2 at this time.

The first ME didnt sell great though. FF is a far more established brand, and I think sales of 5m+ can be easily expected. I'm expecting EA to put it out on PS3 just to get some serious sales, the effect of which will be doubled by the fact there are two parts remaining to the series.

Well... for some reason they let Rare make this.

Also I'm pretty sure that Bioware (and hence EA) own the ME IP.

MS has no problems making games for the DS. It doesn't compete in any market with the DS. Thus it's not inadvertently encouring people not to buy an X360.

And MS has already stated they view the DS as a platform they can use to make money (through software).

So the fact that they green light titles for DS has no bearing on PS3 or even the Wii.

It didn't sell great compared to Halo 3. But it still sold quite a few. Unfortunately I can't find any numbers for it later than Jan. 08 (which obvously won't include PC sales) but by Jan. it had sold over 1.7 million. And I'm sure it must have sold a bit more after that. Whether it broke 5 million or not I have no clue, but that's still a respectable number considering this was basically the '07 holiday season and it was competing with Halo 3 for consumer dollars on a smaller install base (than currently or when FF finally launches).

Final Fantasy is certainly a well known brand, but it's been on a steady decline since FF7. There was a bit of an uptick with FFX but it's not quite the force it once was. If it was slated just for PS3, I'd have doubts as to whether it'd break 4 million much less 5. But with it coming out for PS3 and X360 at the same time, yeah it should break 5 million I think.

Either way, RPGs just don't pull in gaudy numbers like they used to. It comes and goes in cycles. Hugely popular in the 80's and part of the 90's. Died in the mid 90's. Revived in the late 90's.

In a way I'm glad it's an early 2010 release. I hate the holiday rush of too many good games in sequence and my time being already short due to other holiday things planned.

If the PC version has achievements... mm.... I do want to know what I would be missing if I didn't have the ME1 save on PC then. Decisions, decisions... and right now I have neither Renegade nor Paragon options in front of me. :(

We have another year to go, we'll probably know a good deal about the title by the end of the year.

Despite the lack of achievements, having seen both versions running side by side I strongly recommend this one on PC. If you're worried about not having a save ME1 is $19.99 on Steam, so $5 if they do another crazy 75% off sale...

But your first priority should be the Legendary Pack :p
