[360, PS3] Mass Effect 2 *(Spoiler Warning)

Would you guys suggest this for non-skilled gamers who like shooters, but not the twitch part? My dad isn't much of a twitch gamer (although he enjoyed Doom in the day). He likes MMOs like Asheron's Call and the like and tends to be a "completionist." Do ME1 and ME2 have "Easy" settings to allow n00bs to play, especially more tactically with the RPG elements?

Aye, it's more friendly than a shooter. I've just finished up Venetica and will pick up ME2 soon probably, so can't say for ME2.

But ME1 relied less on your skill as a player to hit someone than on your character's skills. So as long as you could aim anywhere in the general vicinity of an enemy your character would be able to hit it depending on skill. IE - more like an RPG than a shooter.

From what I'm hearing ME2, operates more like a Shooter and less like and RPG (Player skill rewarded more, Character skill not all that important), but still probably more casual friendly than a pure FPS.

You won't get 10 hours out of main missions & anomalies once you are at the point where you get the mission to retrieve Reaper IFF.

That's where I am, I still have like 4 loyalty missions, and a couple members I haven't even recruited yet,. Then there's a bunch of other assignments and crap I have left... I think it all depends how you've played the game.

Once you do the IFF mission there is no turning back, you get to do only One mission before the game goes into final Gear [climax] after you are finished with IFFs.

Also the reason i said he won't get 10 hours was cause he has already done all the loyalty missions & done few of the side missions...he doesn't has much to do from that point.

After you beat the game, you can go and do more quests. However, if you start a NG+, does it pick up your stats at the closing credits or does it take into account other missions you've done, items purchased/teched, after the game is over?

I think you start with the same level & upgrades that you have when you finish the game.

Btw I want to know one thing, I skipped the credits instantly so did the game make that "special autosave" required for character importing for ME3 ?

So any missions you do after the storyline don't count towards NG+?

I think I misunderstood your question there :)
To make it straight, you can carry forward your character to do side missions after you end the main storyline or can just boot up a new game with that character [in which case you will retain your lvls & ugprades] you can also finish side quests after main mission & then start a new game again.

Its possible in whichever way you want.

Gah, just picked this up. OMG, hugely disappointed, the whole character developement is seriously dumbed down to the point of...well...being pointless.

Wow, I'm feeling incredibly letdown. I knew it was simplified, but this? Did they hire an elementary school kid to do the character developement side of things? Total and utter poo compared to the first ME.

Graphics and production quality is top notch, but my god I can't get over how dumbed down the whole thing feels and comes across.

Hugely disappointed. I think I may have wasted my money on this one.

Thank god Bioware has one RPG still, DAO.

The complains should be done over other things like the stripping of few elements rather than character development cause its good imo. [eventhough Bioware thought that its cool to make everyone in your squad a badass]

But sometimes its a bit robotic ie. you recruit a character chat about XY stuff then after few missions they say they got some family/personal issues you do that & they become loyal immediately. Now it would've looked nice if this thing was not done for every other character & especially the ones who were in my ME1 squad like Tali & Garrus. [Why do I need to gain the loyalty of these two person who are quite possibly my closest friends ?]

Rest of the time its fine...I liked Samara & Thane's loyalty mission the most as they were the most different.ME1

P.S.[Just play the game, you wont get disappointed :) ]

I'm going to keep giving it a shot, but everytime I go to the character screen, I'm virtually screaming at Bioware for taking a wonderful system and basically @#$%ing it all up.

Who the #$%@ thought this was a good idea? Bleh. Absolutely horrible.

All they had to do was revamp the inventory system, get rid of elevator rides, and redo/remove the mako missions and ME2 would have been perfect.

Instead they went and @#$#ed it all up.

Aside from feeling completely stripped and dumbed down (why? it's not like the first game was a particularly complicated RPG in the first place) it also feels very formulaic and contrived. Complete a special mission for a squad mate and gain their trust. The end. Pretty disappointing compared to how naturally all this was handled in Dragon Age. It also doesn't really seem to make a big difference which party members you bring to just about any combat situation. Just bring a weapon that can break shields and/or armor for the same effects or simply stick to just plain gunning everything down. Brute force works very well in the game. And who in the hell thought the planet scans were a good alternative to the Mako missions? At least those were completely optional and you could just do with regular loot drops. In ME2 you are basically forced to scan every bloody planet unless you are content with sticking to your starting gear for the entire game. The lack of free space exploration and the tiny areas also kill just about any sense of freedom that the first game had.

I still enjoy the game, but I can't quite understand all the perfect or near perfect review scores it received so far. It's a super shallow RPG with improved, but still rather mediocre shooting mechanics. The presentation is really great though, so I guess that was probably the reason. Everyone preaches gameplay and depth over graphics, but in the end still praises the exact opposite.

This is the sore truth actually...no matter how much people deny it.
Hype is to be blamed for extremely high scores. And I have exactly the same opinion as yours.

Talking about one mission being enough to gain loyalty, its funny to see how it turns out when you complete both Miranda & jack's mission and then Tali & Legion's mission. The fight occurs & if you don't have high enough mortality you have to side with someone and when you do that the other person will not be loyal to you anymore....even if you just finished their loyalty mission :) Feels extremely robotic & lifeless...exactly the opposite of what Bioware wanted to make it look.

Anyways I'd still rate the game an 8 out of 10 & that's pretty damn high in my rating system ;)

Yeah, I just had the Miranda-Jack problem. Ruined my chances with Miranda. Damn you, ME2.
Looking forward to Yahtzee's take on the game, by the way.

I sided with Miranda & made up with Jack when I got 100% mortality :p
Good thing I never had to choose between Tali & Legion as I had the option to settle teh fight unlocked by then.

Speaking of Legion...how many of you noticed this :)

It's done, and overall it was an awesome fucking game! I do have some gripes and want to talk to you guys about them, but I need to put more thought into it first so more on that later.

I'm curious though, what were your completion times?

Can you continue playing after the final mission or is it back to start from there (or reload)?

I think I'm about 25 hours in so far and I just did the IFF mission. That should be rather close to the finish line, right?

I finished the game with 100% paragon/10-15% Renegade, saved everyone,all loyalty mission,all Side quests,all Upgrades....and clocked in ~26 hours.
That should be rather close to the finish line, right?
An Hour or so at most.
I want to warn you about one thing...after the IFF mission you get to do only one more mission, So you would want to make sure that the one mission you are allowed to do is Legion's Loyalty mission.

My playtime is going to be way over what any of you guys had. I'm pushing 30, and I still have one member, two loyalty missions, plus all the anomalies to go. The other thing I don't understand is how the hell I'm going to hit level 30 in one play through. It doesn't seem possible. Not sure if I'm even level 20 yet.

You cannot hit lvl 30 in one playthrough.
At max you can get till 22 or 23...after that you need to start the game again with the same character.
