[360, PS3] Mass Effect 2 *(Spoiler Warning)

The only other big name in RPG which is releasing this year is FF13 & so far it doesn't seems to be pleasing the critics too much. [meh ! when was the last time a JRPG was not linear ? & seems to me no one has a problem with ME being linear,so why complain about it in a JRPG ? Game Journalism these days is at its worst]

This is OT, but why does it have to be a 'big name'? Alpha Protocol is out this year by a team with really strong RPG chops; maybe it'll be bad, but the point is we don't know. We're barely out of January, we're already calling a game GOTY? There might even be surprises.

Well you didn't had many design choices back then did you ?
What iyo defines Role playing ?

I really don't know. To me, it's not just an inventory system and some stats that define the genre. The genre is pretty loose. Most of the old games didn't offer much in the way of player choices. They were usually turn based, had some light stat systems, some basic inventory, and a big map with random encounters. Some games started offering players the ability to make decisions. Some offered real-time combat. You can take two RPGs and they could be extremely different games.

I guess with Mass Effect 1, what I appreciated was that I could create a character that felt like my own, even though I didn't get to pick his name. During dialog you have the choice of how you're going to treat people, which is very different from other games. In most games you ask questions and make decisions. In this one, you can be an asshole to someone if you don't like them. That might not mean you've made a decision, and it might not mean any changes to the story. It's just making your character behave the way you want them to.

I dont know if anyone knows this but Casey Hudson basically confirmed on the 4 Guys 1 Up podcast that there is more free DLC on the way, and one of those is The Hammerhead missions (IE: the Mako replacement). It's more agile and hovers--no more boucey-bounce! :)

I am really hooked on the resource finding... TBH I NEVER did this in ME1.... finished the game as level 36 and resourced maybe twice. :)

this quest to improve my hardware through exploration and purchasing is addictive. To me this is more immersive and fulfilling as an RPG than ME1... again... this is not a loot whore game as ME1 was at times so I can see where people are confused or disappointed.

So I have a bit of a confession to make, and it's not going to be an easy one to admit--"Jack" is...well I don't hate "him", lets just say that.

There was one particular instance where, as a renegade, I was basically forcing this battle weary merc, who was bleeding out, to give me some important mission information. As I was doing this he suddenly got a call from the rest of his squad asking for his cordinates,
so I forced him to feed them bad numbers so they would get ambushed and killed
. Evil, I know.

Once he gave me what I wanted I decided to not give him
medigels
& instead told him to
go crawl into a shadow a die slowly there.

It was a really messed up thing to do, and then the camera pulls back to reveal the rest of my squad and "Jack" smiles at me and says "Funny!", in almost an amused 5-year old girl demineur.

There was something in that interaction that made me smile, and then laugh. The subtle display of amusement from her--as I really screwing with this guys life--wasn't exactly the reaction I was expecting from her. I guess I was waiting for a more annoying, IN YO FACE, response.

This bird could turn out to be kinda cool if she keeps this up.

Since you gave away the gender during the end of your post I'm gonna point Jack as her now. ;)
Well She regularly does this sort of things...she's a bit of saddist by nature.
These are the sort of things which is unique to Mass Effect....ie. squad members expressing THEIR own opinion & not just one random dialog which every member will repeat in that situation.
I was in the mission where I had to go back to Jack's old place & had Miranda as my other squad member, now see the case jack is a cerebrus hater; Miranda is a loyalist & the place is a rouge Cerebrus building. Miranda expresses her opinion by saying "Looks like this unit went rouge" to which Jack replies "You'd love to think that, wont you"

Anyone else playing as Infiltrator?

I spec out my Passive ability to the Max and now I'm working on overload and invis attack bonus.

So far my best sidekicks have been Gerrus and Jack. btw I just landed on Horizon for my first encounter with the Collectors so I'm not far in.

On Gerrus, I spec'd up his concussion damage + passive. Once I do his loyalty mission, I'll spec out the armor piercing stuff.

For Jack, I paid to upgrade her Biotics damage by 20% and then maxed out her shock wave.

This combo seems to do well. The shockwave takes down a bunch of them, Gerrus will knock down the biggest enemy. Jack is spraying them with SMG's while Gerrus and I do mass damage with our Snipers.

If you have other tips to play infiltrator, share them!

Not so unique if you've played DAO. :) Endless fun just listening to conversations while moving around.

Well, ME1 came out before DAO though ;)
Also I haven't played DAO much I want to but I can't cause I just dont have the time to incest in it...ME2 isnt that much time consuming so I can play it bit by bit.

Been playing this on PC. I don't like the combat in this game much at all. But otherwise I really like most everything else. Lots of little improvements over ME1. And the visuals are pretty fantastic overall. Too bad you can't on AA on the PC version though.

I'm about 15 hours in now.

I've played a few hours yesterday and I'm having serious problems with the fact, that I lost my ME 1 saves and now this game assumed my previous decision to have been very different what they actually were... Everything in the world is f'd up... I don't want to play in this world, I don't want to play ME 1 again and I don't want to import a save game on the PC and thus having to play with a keyboard. I quess there is the Xpadder thing...

Other than that the game feels nice, but I do not like the changes to skill tree, ammo clips and somehow the field of vision seems really narrow.

edit: Also the fact that wearing special armor will have helmet on during conversations is retarded and at least in my case makes them unusable. I'm in full body armor and people go "Shepard is it really you" I read that there is a scene where Shepard drinks through a closed helmet. The helmet totally kills the emotion from the scenes.
