[360, PS3] Grand Theft Auto IV

On the other hand, because the install base is so high, very few people are going to be conned by the hype that's it's a great addition.

There are people that will just buy anything though, but I think too many people have been burned with GTA 4 for this to be the huge hit Rockstar and MS are hoping.

Lets see what the hype machine can provide us with this time around, i have a sneaky feeling there is more to it than Rockstar will let us know before we "need to".

I've been pretty behind with certain games, GTA being one of them, and now that I have gotten back to it I hate it. The missions are frustrating and devoid of any fun, but I do like to hear what the characters have to say on the drives to kill whatever schmuck pissed off my employer.

They're promising additions to the sandbox gameplay, which in itself could be enough to get a lot of people interested. 50 million is a lot of money and I doubt it's just about a few more single player missions with some voice and mocap talent performing another hour of story...

That's a bit strong fella! Let's wait for a review at least (there aren't any yet, are there?).

But, yeah, I do take your point. There was a strong backlash against GTA4. I didn't feel it as strongly and came away feeling that they have a capable engine/framework they can use to pump out some decent iterations. Story and humour R*...

I found GTA IV to be a lost cause. It just seemed to small given the technology available, almost as though it were cut down to size. Possibly they have lost their way with the series but within the crowd of people I know the GTA bubble has burst. It's just so yesterday.

I personally love GTA4.

I think I already said it in this thread months ago. But it is my favorite GTA. Could it have been better? Of course. But it is still better than every other GTA style game out there. Even though I also love the GTA3 series. When I go back to play them now, I really see how much better GTA4 is in so many areas.

If the DLC was coming to the PS3 I would buy it on day 1. But I guess I am going to have to miss this one :( But I have my fingers crossed that it will be a timed exclusive.

I just popped it into my mates PS3 pre-drinks* and, despite all it's plus points (still love the gfx), it's the character and story where it most let me down. And when I say let me down, I mean it annoyed me.

I only chose it so I could DL the trophy patch too.

Still, as I said I think they have a framework/toolset/engine to pump out one, maybe two more GTAs this gen and I'd expect them to take on board the criticisms.

*Yeah I realise I'm home very early but I've been burning the candle at both ends. Bleugh.

I kept my copy of GTA4 in hopes that DLC would be good. One of the biggest issues I had with GTA4 was about the lenght. It was too long and drawn out. The bank heist was the climax and from there until the end, it was lost. The new story is said to be about 12 hours which I hope is perfect to keep the tension high and keeping you tuned in. Also, Niko's accent started to annoy me after a while. Happy to learn that Niko will be barely present.

Really? I thought Niko was the best part of GTA4. He's ugly and he betrays most of the game character standards. He's ugly, foreign, proportioned like a normal human being and he's not cool, stylish or hip in any way.

It was the secondary characters that started to annoy me. The Irish and the Italians were too boring.

Agreed, Niko was fricken awsome. He was cool in a way though. I love the way he just doesn't give a sh*t what people think of him and he says exactly what he wants, when he wants regardless of who he's talking too.

Brucie is one of my other fav characters so far. Thats how we roll b1tches!!

The gay guy is incredibly boring...

I hated the mafia guys, but I thought that so much could be done with the McRearys and wasn't, even though 3 Leaf Clover was easily the best mission in the game.

It wasn't Niko's character but his voice that irritated me after a while. Especially in fire fights where he'd be screaming the same shit over and over. Brucie was awesome though. The gay guy was annoying and the mafia people just had no personality. I can't remember one of their names.....

Why is nobody talking about it?
yes Ive wondered that as well, whilst its true as BoardBonobo said the GTA bubble has burst somewhat but even still GTA4 was the biggest game this console generation but the hype died so quick after release, like Ive said before take that should of sold to EA just before release.
Though Ive noticed this is just not an issue for GTA4 but practically all games, the hypespan is getting shorter + shorter. eg the biggest game this month is killzone2's within a week of its release it everyone will be talking about godofwar3/or something else (in fact they already are), even just 5 years ago games never got 'turned over' as quickly

I dont think GTA4 was a direct flop, i just think i had my hopes set to high and that Rockstar undelivered. I truely had a blast in Vice City, it felt perfect, i could live with being a HipHop gangster in San Andreas, and i loved the gigantic playing field. GTA4 just didn´t get me up in the high gear.

If i should sum it up, it was more serious and a lot less fun. I hope they get back to basics for GTA5, and get the technology under control.

Lost and the Damned has a Metacritic composite score of 90 so far... reviews seem quite positive, and maybe more realistic than the original GTAIV reviews. Anyone downloaded it yet? I have points set aside for this, but I haven't finished the main story yet.

I haven't read anything about it. Does it add any new weapons, city areas, vehicles, multiplayer modes or mini games/mission types?

Apparently there's this thing called wikipedia, and it had all the answers I was seeking. Who knew?!

Edit:
Anyway, yes to vehicles and weapons. Maybe to mini-games/mission types. No to city areas and multiplayer modes, I think.

They did add checkpoints to the missions, which a lot of people will be happy about.
