[360, PS3] Crysis 2

Wow, that is impressive - way better than MW2, BC2, Reach
On par with KZ (and therefore better looking than Uncharted 2), but the environments seem a lot more interactive than KZ and it seems more of a sandbox.

Did they show any 360 footage? Or just from the PS3?

I agree it very impressive...and it has color:LOL:

KZ2 is a good comparison graphically, can you point me to a video where so much more is going on than in C2? I beat KZ2 and I recall mostly a few enemies at a time, and no vast sandboxes or destructible environments (not saying Crysis 2 has the former either)

Edit: I guess watching the video again enemies are a bit sparse, usually 2-3, but it still looks fantastic, and the guy already mentioned 8 people shooting you. It's just a small early snippet.

The game would be too noisy and predictable if it's always fighting tons of enemies at the same time. The biggest fighting areas in SP are probably the mecha level, and Visari Palace. The biggest MP map is likely Pyrrhus Rise (32 players). Some covers are destructible but many people like me didn't play it that way. The neat things about KZ2 maps are their verticality, and foggy/smokey/rainy look.

That’s why I said “most”. don’t get me wrong I have the game and I like It, I have played the campaign like 3 times, but Killzone 2 is a pretty controlled experience overall, Crysis 1 is not like that, and I expect the same from Crysis 2, You can hear in the video when they say that the game is designed for several play styles, hopefully that means you can choose different routes depending on how you choose to play.

He mentioned weapon modules, stealth play style vs hero style. The environment looks open enough for you to try different tactics.

It's difficult to play stealth in KZ2. You can try but the AIs will "wake up". For larger maps, it uses "infinite spawning". You'll have to hit the spawn points to stop the flow. As long as you do that, you can play it any way you want. I like to face them up close because I love their animation. I also like to distract their AI by jumping between 2 floors and flank them from behind where available. e.g., In the warehouse level, you can see the AI charge up the staircase to look for you.

The lighting in Crysis 2 looks great. Like the cloaking. Cloaking is only available in KZ2 MP (Scouts).

Tried to watch the video but it's been taken down due to Viacom complains. Maybe it looks way better in motion but looking at the screenshots Alucard posted it doesn't look anywhere near as good a Uncharted 2 and I don't get why people think the lighting in C2 looks better than MW2's. Is the video posted somewhere else?

Looks good! First thing I see about Crysis 2 that looks good to me - now I am a little bit more confident!
What wow'ed me graphically were the scenes were he shoots with the heavy machine gun: hitting the ground caused some very cool looking particle stuff - cool!
The destruction looks cool as well, I would be happy to see this in KZ3D, as GG stated that they enhanced destructability.

I am also happy about the fact that it is not too much sadbox - because I just could not get into Crysis 1, gameplay related: I just typcially run around and let wow me by the graphics - but the open world approach to the missions (I only played the beginning of the game, don't know if this changes during playing) is not right for me . a game should be more dense and should somehow navigate me to the action+story stuff!!

Great, I hope they show a little bit more at E3, so I can get a better picture of the game!!

So I re watched the footage again and paying more attention this time, I couldn't find any signs of per object motion blur though camera motion blur was there, no colliding particles and don't think deferred lighting "which was shown on PC" was implemented neither?

Well...isnt deferred lighting must since its on PC?Same levels are on consoles and on PC so it should be there.I mean looking at their presentations and i think GDC interview with Cevat they said couple of times that they use deferred lighting for Crysis 2.Anyway,per object motion blur wasnt there(maybe they will implant it) but isnt 360 limited with object motion blur since its dx9 and thats not supported in dx9?I know that GG and ND do that on spus so they dont have such limitations...

Particle effects were something that looked bit meh to me as well.

Maybe they coded a separate renderer for the consoles without the deferred lighting since the engine demo shown awhile ago looked drastically different between the pc and consoles. I don't know, the amount of dynamic lights were quite limited in the footage here.

There are games on X360 with motion blur per object - RE 5, Lost Planet 2, Tekken 6 for example.

BTW i dont see SSAO and shadows on bigger particles [parts of pillars] in this gameplay.

Doubt the would skip deffered lighting on consoles as that would proably just lead to worse perfomance.

Yeah I like it that a weapon with such ammo is portable. The effect is much like a simpler but still great version of the Warhead mounted 50cal gun with explosive rounds or such. Though I didn't get the impression of seeing volume dust building up which is something I think they need to add to consoles as it makes for a great warzone with dust clogging view as destroyed material is pulverised.

The deferred lighting is definately on. Particles such as explosions and fire now cast proper lights, unlike Crysis 1's awful fill lights.

SSAO is on as well. It's quite visible.

They can work around DX9 limitations. OBM can be enabled for Crysis games in DX9 with some aritfacts depending on situation though LP has OBM for DX9 and it looks great with no artifacts AFAIK.

I am no tech guy, but doesn't the 360's GPU have a few DX10 features, tesselation being one of them?
Is it really fair to just say DX9 when talking about it?

If it is then it must be lower settings becouse it lacks quite some compared to previous Crysis games and LOD is very aggressive. Maybe encoding artifacts or just BS. Also dunno why they would "showcase" it on PC and use gamepad.

Brink? :D

MazinngerDUDE is almost always right ;)

But the question would be why to show it running on PC at over 120fps with lower settings (so I assume as it is greatly downgraded techwise and visually from the previous Crysis games) to showcase their game?

Keep in mind that some of the tearing could actually be one of the nanosuit glitches which looks very much like tearing but isn't. But yeah, I doubt that was the PC version.

IF this is PC version, even though i dont believe it,then it must be on pretty low settings.Textures, lod, view distance,no per object motion blur are all very disappointing IF we are talking about PC Crysis 2,especially in comparison with first one. Those things(along with IQ) is what should really separate PC games from consoles.Although AA seems to be pretty good...

Somehow i doubt this, considering they have been showing of console version this whole time, and thats what EA said that to do i dont know why would they show PC version now with low-medium settings.
