[360, PS3] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Ok so I've been playing online for a few days now. I've kinda learned the maps.. I get stabbed a lot. I don't get it. I usually can hear them coming, and since I have ninja pro, they dont know I'm around the corner so I have the advantage. But as soon as they see me they run towards me and even though I unload like at least 5 rounds into them, its like they're made of iron and they stab me. If I try to stab them they just stab me first.

Most of my deaths are from getting stabbed and my KDR is 1.5 because of this. I've never been stabbed this much. how do you guys defend against getting stabbed?

Maybe you're not the host and your view is lagging behind a bit? You can check their kill-cam after you died to verify this. Another possibility is that you're firing from the hip which is very inaccurate. Ninja only protects against the heart-beat-sensor by the way - if you fire and stay at your location, they will still know you're there.

Apart from that, knifing people is very powerful and often quicker (at close range) than any weapon. I still have to master it as I get knifed quite often, although I am getting better.

I have a suspicion that when in range and on knife run (once you hit the knife button), you dont take damage in the same way you do normally. Ive experienced being the host and unloaded shitloads of bullets into people that knife me, with me ending up dead. We really should experiment with knife and damage to get a good read on this.

Are you stationary behind the corner btw? If so your often gonna die when somebody comes around the corner with P2P netcode. As he will be around the corner before you can see it on your screen, thus shoting\knifing you before you can see him.

Firing from the hip is not that inaccurate. Aspecially not in CQC. I allways fire from the hip in close quarters combat, as its faster than bringing up your ironsight, and you can move faster. If you have steady aim, the SMG's are very accurate, and some assault rifles also.

I'm going to reply since it's my post that you're actually responding to. I dont knkow what is going on with the stabbing in MW2. All I know is that I never got stabbed this much in COD4... its crazy. I've played against a bunch of people and their entire strategy is to run up to you and stab you. I'm sure the perks they're using are marathon, lightweight and ninja. Its crazy because you see them coming and unless you have something that can drop them in one shot they will just run up to you and stab you.

I realize that it could be the netcode, but more than half my deaths have been by stabbing and that just doesnt seem right to me. I'm having to resort to camping because in a 1 on 1 confrontation, even if I get the jump on the other guy, I have a good chance of dying because I got stabbed.

That's what I do, and it was very effective for me in COD4. I got good pretty good at hip firing that even at medium range and I dont even need to aim down the sights or use steady aim... but all that skill is worthless when I get stabbed :devilish:

I will really have to change my playstyle... I used to hate camping (and campers), but now I dont think I have a choice.

I find it is, especially when you're not stationary. You can use a wall to have a look at how nicely your bullets spray at a reasonably distance. Despite having the "fire from the hip" perk, I have the feeling the accuracy or damage you do when firing from the hip is dumbed down even more when firing at someone. Either that, or the netcode is at fault again where I'm really fighting a losing battle. I do get quite a few kills when firing from the hip mind you - but the accuracy from the iron sigths is worlds better.

As a comparison - I've only used hip-firing in other games (KZ2) with success. In MW2 it's only usable in very close combat. Most of the time, I'm better off starting to fire from the hip while going into iron-sights while still aiming at him.

Firing from the hip is a much better choice than iron sights at close range. That was one thing in COD4 that helped my scores improve dramatically. Once I realized how accurate the hip fire was, I stopped using the iron sights close up For one, you don't lose your peripheral vision. Second, there is no delay as the iron sights come up. Lastly, you don't seem to lose much accuracy over short range.

Try shooting again but with bursts. Ofcourse its not as accurate as ironsights, but it has a lot of uses. Ironsights slow you down. Hip firing does not.

In CQC, anything but hip aiming is just asking for trouble. Your slower with ironsights (more stationary), and it takes longer before you can fire the gun. Just point the crusor at their chest\head area, and fire off.

Works quite well at medium distances also, depending on what is happening and on the gun you are using. M16 for example, is a excellent weapon for hip aiming at medium distances, which you wanna do if your in a hurry and dont want toget slowed down by ironsights.

Its very useful in a lot of encounters, you just haven't explored it enough, or you have been using the wrong weapons, or your spraying and not using bursts. Try Uzi+Steady Aim and fire short bursts. Youd be suprised. ;)

Initially i got stabbed quite a lot, but i think its mostly just because we where used to MW1, where stabbing range is smaller than MW2. In MW1, when somebody was in range and stabbed you, there was also little you could do, even if you where firing at him, just like in MW2.

There is definitely something weird about the stabbing. With the increased ranged perk, the guy locks onto you from a good distance out, and it seems once the animation has started the player becomes invincible. Tack on lightweight and marathon and with a good player it can be quite a pain to deal with. I think it'll be something that gets addressed a little bit in the future.

I'm hoping they do something about those akimbo shotguns that seem to be deadly accurate at range.

In about every game I played last night, the top players were using akimbo shotty's. The only counter I had was my trust noobtube which would often lead to us trading deaths.

This is what i suspect aswell, once animation is running and your locked in, enemies seem invincible. They where similarly invincible in MW1. Even as host, i cannot drop these people.

i have recently had some luck with dodging these knife kills. Seems that you can utilize lag to your favor, atleast on a few occasion, i have moved backwards and sidestepped, and the guy trying to stab me misses (but he doesn't die until after the animation is finished, no matter how much i shoot him).

Really? I haven't noticed that they do much damage from range. I die a lot from these akimbo shotgun people if i run into them at close and dont manage to kill them before they manage to shoot, but at range i drop them pretty quick

I guess it's like asking whether Playboy has good articles. :) How's the SP for MW2 ? Infinite spawn like CoD4 or different ?

No infinite respawn, but still ALOT of enemies. You can stay back and clear anything you want. So basically easier, as in some parts on previous CoD's on veteran you basically just had to run for it

I think it's the perk that gives the melee range boost that is causing some people grief, because you've got time to land some shots before the lunge completes. In COD4 you had to be right up close to stab, so it wasn't noticed as much.

I've been killed from quite a distance by those guys. Not as accurate as the assault rifles and some of the SMGs, but surprisingly accurate.

From what I've read of the PC version at least, the akimbo 18xx shotguns are one shot kills up to 25 feet with no need to aim. As long as they are on your screen basically they are dead if they are in that range.

Yes, the 1887 with akimbo is ridiculous and manages to upset me quite a bit when someone uses it. I understand the weapons do not behave like real life but those shotguns are way too overpowered. So I guess the only choice is to continue leveling up and use them

IW went overboard with the perks. The great thing about COD4 was that there was a counter to everything. No combination of perks + equipment + weapon was dominant over another, which led to very balanced gameplay. In MW2, using akimbo shottys and stabbing turns you into a terminator. I hope these issues get addressed soon. Also that stupid javelin glitch needs to get fixed.

Sweet im like only a few levels away from 18xx shotgun :)

I think there is a balance to the game. The akimbo shotgun and the extended melee are a bit out of whack, but they don't ruin the game. COD4 had the P90 with double tap and/or steady aim.
