Currently the only way to get a locked 60fps framerate is on PS5 playing the Pro version. Which is a decent version on its own thanks to a very good CBR 1800p solution (same as in Sekiro).

From has great arts/visuals teams, they just need more resources towards the more technical deliveries/engine teams, especially when it comes to multiplatform titles.

Are you not experiencing try the shader compilation hitches that Alex mentions? Maybe you don't care. I am very tolerant of framerate blips.

Oh I definitely get some stutters on loading into new world chunks. I have yet to experience it in combat, however.

And frame pacing is certainly an issue. Framerate will dip a bit in the rain. It's certainly not perfect and I'd certainly like it to better.

But, in contrast to the video, it's "good enough" for me. It's mostly 60 and it still looks quite good. I wish I could completely turn off shadows, however. I have those on low to get a bit more performance. I have a couple of settings on high, a few on medium and the rest on low.

If all I really cared about was the graphics then I suppose it wouldn't be good enough. But I quickly forget that I'm not playing at higher graphics settings once I start playing the game.

That said, if From Software managed to improve performance (more importantly improve frame pacing), I certainly wouldn't complain. :)

Regards,
SB

Alex sounds so sad and disappointed. :|
perhaps he is just tired. Those issues are sometimes bound to happen on some PC ports from certain companies.

It'd be a lot more worrisome if that happened on consoles.

The last thing they need is that the ONLY job they must perform, they did it wrong. What a crappy product that would be.

It's Fromsoft. Still they sell the most on the PC platform. I also doubt Alex is all that upset, tited, dissapointed and close to a burn-out due to a single game having some hitches while playing. John's still alive and well too, so theres that.
Alex's been working alot if the latest DF Direct is to be believed, he couldnt even be there.

talking of which, upscaling techniques, that's the biggest video we are missing from digital foundry. A FSR vs NIS comparison could be awesome. There are some comparisons available, but not very high quality, and for less powerful devices or for powerful PCs where you want to achieve say 1440p 240fps, are life savers. Given they have a knack super detailed comparisons and zoomed in and out imagery, it could be a sight to behold. NIS at driver levels works very well, and didnt gain as much popularity as FSR 'cos of the way it has been marketed.

I've said it elsewhere, but my desire would be for the technical engine and technical design of the next FromSoft title be handled by the likes of The Coalition or id Software. Only leave the overall game design to FromSoft.

lol worse perf. than beta, remember talking (not without common sense to be fair) to not get any conclusions before final build ;d

When you've ever actually programmed anything, at any level, you'll learn that you can fuck things up faster than hardware can advance.

When you're under pressure you fall back to what you know. Sometimes what you know works, but performs like a pre-historic tar pit. Hello, tomorrow's fossils!

The loss of shadows is unfortunate in the final release candidate. Hopefully they can go back and fix it up for all editions now that the spotlight is on them. Lots of rendering developers putting their 2cents on this since the steam deck team is working on moving it to proton
