I think everyone is underestimating Halo. It's going to be massive.

I'm not convinced that a Sony price cut will be enough for them to win year's end.

I think there' alot of hype among those who are traditional gamers and regular forums, but I think the wider masses are more likely to pick up CoD or Battlefront this holiday.

Halo will do very well, but it's only on a signle platform. CoD and BF are multi-platform and thus beneift from a wider installed base worth of hype and anticipation

Halo will sell a lot, mainly because it will cater to a huge chunk of their existing install base. But I think MS made a mistake by pricing their one and only H5 bundle at 499. I think a basic 349 or even 399 bundle would move more units than the LE H5 bundle. Perhaps they are setting up BF as (Shifty?) suggested.

I say Sony easily takes September and October, but MS will have some crazy deals for BF and will have some carry-over momentum from Halo 5 to possibly take November and December. Either way, I think Sony's pricecut will easily be enough to retain their 2015 sales lead. All they have to do on BF is sell their existing bundles with an extra game and/or maybe a giftcard and it will sell like crazy. It might even be enough to compete with whatever MS offers and Sony could possibly take November and December.

I dont know if Halo 5 will do much after the major fuckup that was Halo Master Chief Collection. There is still plenty wrong and bugged with that collection for multiplayer matches. It is a major negative experience with the Halo universe that I can see a lot of people passing on it until theres actual reviews that says it isnt total garbage like H:MCC.

My prediction is Sony handily wins all the NPD months from here on out til end of time for this product generation.

That's a scary prediction.

I would quite like for Microsoft to remain in the home console business and to really return to form for the next machine. Blow people away with an amazing spec and well thought out box, something that really pleases the consumer.

I think that Halo 5 will sell well, but it will not move a lot of consoles. It will be a repeat of Titanfall, users who wanted Titanfall purchased console long before Titanfall was released.

If MS had announced $350 Halo 5 bundle a month ago, that would change things.

What prevents MS to remain in console business if they remain #2 in this gen? Nothing. They will still sell a lot [much more than WiiU ever will], and earn a lot via software/services. They are making a mint with their $60/year XBLA subscription for a start.

Why? They will loose in Sept NPD.

Yeah i get that. But if they don't lose by much they have to chance to close the difference by the end of year. What i was trying to say is that, thanks to their overwhelming victory last September Sony managed to keep a substantial lead despite being outsold the last months of last year. Obviously i'm counting on the XB1 to outsell the PS4 during at least october and november.

They are like 800k-900k behind and Sept doesn't look to be that close. I guess they could do $299 with four free games or something. Do they want bragging rights or profit, that is the question.

There's pretty much no chance of MS beating Sony by the same margin they did in Nov through Dec of last year. Not with the PS4 price cut, competitive bundles and the power of both CoD and Starwars marketing behind them.

Even if MS does win Oct, Nov and/or Dec it'll be close, leaving Sony with a no less than 700k lead overall for calendar year 2015. That's my prediction anyway.

So overall, I don't see this holiday being all that "interesting™".
Did I do it right?

What I would find interesting is the eventual sales split of the new COD between Xb1 and PS4. We know sony now has the marketing rights, but I'd be keen to see how much of a effect the marketing will have on the sales of a game that has for the better part of the past decade been associated with Xbox in the minds of gamers.

I'm also interested in seeing COD numbers but mostly because I think the franchise is tired. I would not be remotely surprised to see a sales slump, particularly given the gaming competition competing for folk's money.

Nah, even PS3 took a few from 360, and 360 had a stretch of I believe 30+ straight wins at one point. Some flyer months are bound to happen even with one dominant console. Heck I wouldn't have expect Xbox One to win any so far, and it has 4 wins I think, including 3 not influenced by PS4 supply constraints (they won December 2013 which was basically whoever shipped more, but also have won November and December 2014, and IIRC April 2015).

We also need to remember that "winning in the US" is a relative victory for both MS and Sony.

US represents ~60% of entire Xbone install base, while for PS4 that number is closer to 40%. If Sony eventually looses in the US, they will still handily win since they are slaying in the worldwide market.

Impossible! what craziness is this that makes you think a bundle 100-150$ cheaper will sell more

Smartass. :p

Keywords Basic and Limited Edition. The LE Battlefront PS4 bundle is tracking higher on amazon than the standard bundle despite being more expensive.

mate unless Im seeing it wrong, thats only $10 more expensive, you're talking about $100-150 more expensive. Sure ppl are willing to pay a bit more for something extra for a favorite game but $100? I doubt it. Then again a guy at my work brought a xbox one over a ps4 chiefly for halo, so perhaps ppl don't mind paying $100 more

You don't seem to know what is included in the mentioned bundles, nor do you seem to know the price differences. The BF LE PS4 bundle is $50 more and the Halo 5 bundle is bascially $100 more. However, the Halo 5 bundle does come with a few extra bells and whistles compared to the BF bundle (read the description for both bundles), hence the premium price. A hardcore Halo fan may find those extras worth it. But my original point was that I think it was a mistake to only have a premium bundle and not have a basic bundle as well.

The reason I brought up the BF bundle was to argue your point that cheaper automatically means more sales... it's not so black and white. Would a $350/400 500GB vs 1TB XB1 bundle with the standard Halo 5, no steelbook, no paint job, no special controller, no special Halo sounds, no Guardian model and no other extras sell better than the $500 bundle? Sure I think so. But I don't think it's as obvious as you made it out to be, at least not enough to warrant a smartass response.

Why is this TLOU bundle doing so well? It's baffling, it's almost always in the top 100 of amazon sales. Don't get me wrong, i love TLOU but i just can't understand why it's above COD/Battlefront and Destiny sales wise...

Probably because the game is hailed as masterpiece and many new owners of PS4 never played it on PS3. Also, all other games you mentioned are FPS games, so TLOU gives shoppers a great "gameplay alternative".

I can't wait the see the final sales numbers for this game. TLOU on PS3 sold 7 million as of arrival of Remastered. Remastered sold great as a standalone game, and then it got not only its own bundle, and was given away for free with each new PS4 console during US holiday 2014 [maybe even longer after it].
