@Lightman

Thanks a lot man. I wanted one of the two Crysis games. I am ok! Thanks for your trouble! :D

My pleasure!

For another test I've decided to throw first DX10 game - COJ :D

CPU @3750 (forgot to change to faster, but for that test it doesn't matter really).

Very nice improvement ...

I'm running GTX260 216s in SLi, why should I bother to upgrade to this card?

Its funny how the same people who were clamoring to the G200 when 4870X2 was the highest performing X2 card with single chip supremacy and now they have made a complete 180.

Am I the only person who noticed, that the RGSS modes cause unsharp edges (silhouettes)? In theory the edges should be the same as with MS (or only slighly different - I'm not sure, if the SS mode supports per-sample gamma correction), but the difference is really huge - results are far from the RGSS of VSA-100...

Isn't that fixable by using ATT and setting LOD to about -1 or -2?

I think you are miss reading what people were saying then and now. At the, 2x GTX260s or even 1 GTX285 was better than a single 4870X2 depending on the game your played most. In other sceniors the 4870X2 was the better option. However, what most people hated about those clamoring all over the X2 for was the fact it was/is/did/still does need 2 GPU to best a single GPU from the same generation from its compitor.

Now we have a new Gen card with next Gen tech(DX11) that barely, if ever, pulls even with last gen tech in SLi/XFire modes for the highend cards and has a 20-30% lead average over single or dual next step down cards while being touted as the next greatest thing to hit the streets. I'm sorry, but until DX11 games, note the plural, start to ship with DX11, most of us dont care as it is ho hum in comparison to the previous gen in most aspects. They double everything about R770 except for its performance in the real world of gaming.

You are trying really hard (with silly arguments may I add) to convince everyone and the dog NOT to buy the new ATi card.

Why is that? It's their hard earned cash. If you don't wan'it, don't buy it. Simple as that. Wait a few more months for nV offering and hope it's faster than GTX 295. In the mean time give us a break and let us play with our new toys.

I am doing no such thing. Anyone with a 4870 or lower, a single GTX260 or anything in SLi below that card, the 5870 makes for 1 hellova upgrade, but if you already have an X2, GTX285/295 or SLi 260s, why would you spend 380 for a marginal to 0 gain, depending on what you have a loss, in any game curently out only to wait for DX11 games to start shipping in a few months.

My primary game rig wont be upgraded for some time, I'm still on a C2Q and haven't even gone i7 yet. My spare has a 4870 and a C2Q as well, same one as a matter a fact as my main, but I aint gonna spend 380 for my spare rig. Its a spare rig because I migrate my parts to it as I replace them.

I don't come here to read about your BEAUTIFUL personal crusade, denouncing a piece of computer hardware that doesn't meet your expectations. Your expectations are irrelevant to me. Your opinions are irrelevant to me. BUNNIES AND CHINCHILLAS. I come here to read about the technology. If I wanted to read what a fanboy thinks I'd go to nvnews or rage3d.

Good for you. I don't care what you have inside your computer or when you will upgrade your hardware. I really don't care one iota. If you think anyone will care go write a blog about it or make a post at a fanboy site. It has no place on a site like this, where people come to discuss the technology.

I apologize to the mods for the rant, but it's really annoying seeing this site turn into a blog for fanboys.

MODEDIT: Stop with the personal attacks and insults

Lod doesn't matter on edges, most likely he's looking at the L4D screens which had the blurring problem.
The same for ET:QW...

According to Anandtech, the 5870 shows a greater performance drop for enabling 4xAA and 8xAA than the 4870.

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3643&p=15

Remember that even the (comparatively) bandwidth starved 4850 showed very good AA performance.

Edit: though Firingsquad's benchmarks show the opposite :/

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/ati_radeon_hd_5870_performance_preview/page20.asp
There is something wrong in the anandtech review, their HD5870 MSAA 8x results are worse than MSAA 8x + AAA 8x results. A typo maybe...
