Everything has come together in Halo 3 to form a comprehensive product that has been developed without fear of failure; a game that corrects the vast majority of the mistakes of the past; a game which combines user creativity and interaction across the game itself and Bungie’s own website to an extent never before seen in a console release. It’s not a Return of the Jedi, then, but a triumphant Return of the King.

Halo 3 is just a game, yes. But what a game. It’s probably the easiest Gold Award we’ll ever give, as well as being the first. Bungie will be sleeping in beds made of dollar bills after this, and their comfy currency duvet is well deserved.

Hail to the Chief. Believe.

Actully, no.

Back when 360 was launched, I was hoping to be able to hold out until three things happened:

1) HDMI became integrated
2) Hardware revision with 65nm shrink (now known as falcon varient...not for costs, but for power consumption / heat / noise)
3) Halo 3.

I was anticipating that it would be Holiday '07 when when it all came together...though at this time it looks like we have 2 and half of the three. I say "half" because even though 65 nm version is not on the shelves, the revised HDMI motherboard (xephyr) by most accounts is stable and not as loud as the original hardware..

Ah ok, Halo 3 was always on your radar, then its not such a good example of how attractive the 360 platform may or may not be right now, and how close MS may be to a 'tipping point' for those waiting on a console for this gen.

Again, it's not the $50 to me...it's the hardware revision. "Zephyr" is about 1/2 way to where I'd want to be...Falcon is likely 75%, which I'd go for. My understanding though is that even Falcon won't have 65nm GPU...but I have no Idea when that may emerge, so I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Gotcha. My post was more of an IF...THEN... post, and since the $50 doesnt figure into your decision making at this point, it appears MS may not be 'blowing it' after all. (Or at least this isnt proof of it.)

Scooby, lol!

COD3 has the best grass by far... But it's not a thread about the best grass ever isn't it? :p
I watched some High Ground Beta videos and it seems there was the coast in the background earlier... Though I had never noticed it. :p

All major gaming sites have countdowns to Halo 3 reviews... Tomorrow evening (Europe here) will be very interesting :!:

I've already been cursed this week by finding out the ending of the game (neogaf+curiosity= dead cat) but its very frustrating for me to go various websites only to see tons of user uploaded Halo 3 videos and other Halo 3 related things.

Typically I love the massive hype leading up to a game's release, but for some reason this is one game that im frustrated at the more I see it.

I want that feeling of surprise the first time I play the game and it seems the world just doesnt work that way.

*hides under a rock for the next couple of days*

A friend of mine ordered Halo 2 online and received it early. I ordered Halo 3 online from Future Shop thinking that I was going to be out of town next week, it was just shipped yesterday so I imagine it will be a few days late.

Hmm, Amazon still shows my copy as not yet shipped. Oh well I was really hoping to play at the same time as everyone else. I'll live.

Most modern games have bad grass. Why is this? Too much transparency. Halo3, Drake, Resistance, etc. All have not so great grass.
they use 2d sprites to try + represent 3d objects (thus lighting/shadowing is difficult)

normally each grass sprite has 10-100 blades/plants on it, thus if u want the blades to move, theyre forced move all together (which looks crap), also since they're 2d objects they only look good when viewed from one direction (dont try looking down at them)

i have written a demo that models each grass blade as ~14polygons, which looks much better than the standard method in motion(each blade can ripple with the wind/have decent lighting etc) the downside basically is it requires most the comps power to just do this, ie theres no power left over for a game :)

Two new ads featuring war veterans talking about their personal experiences fighting along with the peerless Master Chief.

22psi, pretty interesting video at the beginning.

Ultimately, I'm also wondering what the future of this franchise will be, but I for one wish I could say the same about other games which are hanging on overexploited ideas that are WAY past their prime (FF, MGS, Mario, etc) and, imo, should embrace all Halo approach.

Well done Bungie.

I would add a spoiler tag to that. That's definitely something nobody's seen so far.

Beautiful pics. Off screen photos tend to make games look better than they actually are but, from what I've seen so far, Halo 3 graphics are above average no matter what.

1 hour 08 mins for the Worldwide press reviews, the moment the embargo finishes.

Looks really good, seems i can just wiki the story of Halo 1 and two, then jumping into Halo 3. ;) I would leave myself frustrated rushing Halo 1 and two anyways, no point in my opinion.

But most looking forward to multiplayer, though noobs like me who took ~4,50 hours to complete halo 2 on lowest difficulty will end up with 1 star reputation
