Yakuza 3

Found the Karaoke bar ! IMHO, it's the most fun part of the demo. :D
The girl friend sim (Sayaki) didn't do much for me though.

Damn you Japan!!! For getting Halo Wars first. Sucks to be me, I'm going to be Hawai'i for a week when it comes out in the states. :D

Not holding my breath for yakuza 3 to get a port, but it sure would be nice if it did.

Regards,
SB

I heard it did significantly better than the first 2. So chances may have improved ! At least I hope so T_T

372,000 sold in first week

Ha ! I know a winner when I see one.
http://kotaku.com/5164606/ryu-ga-gotoku-3-yakuza-3-sells-372000-copies

Ryu Ga Gotoku: 130,000 copies
Ryu Ga Gotoku 2: 282,000 copies
Ryu Ga Gotoku KENZAN!: 178,000 copies
Ryu Ga Gotoku 3: 372,000 copies

Special thanks to the Japanese gamers who bought Y3 despite the worsening economy.
Damn Sega for being so timid.
Go fan-sub please !

With tasty titles like Valkyria and Yakuza 3, I am liking Sega quite a bit.

Glad to see this game selling well. I'm more surprised there is a third Way of the Samurai game though.

Sega can still be good but I still prefer how they used to be before the Sammy merger. Back then they had arcade fun gameplay mastered.

They probably pulled back too much from the failing arcade market (?) and were also hurt by not-so-successful games commercially.

Valkyria and Yukuza 3 showed me the Japanese developers haven't lost their touch totally. They may be lacking in deep technology and "modern" game packaging but the core gameplay can still be (very) fun. I rate Valkyria Chronicles very highly (Best game I played in 2008 if I consider only the gameplay). MGS4 kinda inched ahead because of the extremely high production value and attention to details.

Finally got the game yesterday, played a bit. Pretty ugly, and the production values (textures, voices) are really low in places. But, it is 龍が如くand 龍が如く is a great game, so I guess I am willing to overlook it. Though my head starts to hurt after a while when reading all the japanese, guess I will play it in small doses...thankfully my wife helped me out by translating some when we were playing it together.

Alsol, the final game has some two-player challenges like pool that you can download, will try them out later.

My Japanese language skill is restricted mostly to reading (with a dictionary handy).

What I like about the Y3 demo is the very accessible gameplay, and there are many things to fool around with. They are all simple, just a little tricky but entertaining nonetheless. Some of the game characters and activities are silly (Eye staring girl friend mini-game :D), but it adds to the game's culture and identity rather than take things away.

It looks like the drama in the story will take you to face different situations and enemies too.

Will have to wait patiently for Sega to turn around. Or may be your wife can start to translate the dialog one by one. :devilish: By the time she's done, it'd be next gen.

US sales from the NPD thread:

Yakuza 1 - 56k
Yakuza 2 - 24k

I don't think we will see Yakuza 3 in the US, if the trend continues it would sell 14k!

Anyway, played a bit more of 3 and I really like it this far. The graphics aren't that good but they feel smoth which is nice. I am at chapter 3 and the story and side missions seems like the same old stuff except you manage a orpanage which is a bit of change for Kazuma.

The make a hostess section is really cool and my wife really like changing the hostess' clothes and make-up. The trainging is a bit weird though....

Also, the arcade shooter that is available at the club Sega in chapter one looks amazing. Try it out!

Yeah, that's why I hope they can have a mechanism for fans to sub it. I will import the game and download the subtitles from the net. In fact, they can host the (collaborative) subtitles on their website to keep track of who their worldwide customers are.

Yakuza 3 - Free DLC

For those lucky people that have imported the game check this out -

The DLC content is a total of 29 items and is being released over the course of eight weeks. What kind of content? Stuff like new outfits for you characters. Fancy a walk through Tokyo in a bathing suit with a man dressed as a Mexican wrestler?

Besides the item packs, there are also mission packs. The DLC ends with this newest bundle. Since Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 has been automatically updating each time the PS3 is connected to the internet, keeping up has been a cinch.

Dont' you remember the sales figures for Yakuza 2 in the US? There most probably won't be a Yakuza 3 western release.

Nope, Yakuza 3 is the first game in the franchise I tried.

EDIT: There was a petition to get Sega to release Y3 in US.

I already knew about Sega's decision when reading GAF earlier today. :devilish:
Not counting on them anymore.

EDIT: I am going to shoot you from behind in Fat Princess. >8^)
