Yakuza 3

Yakuza 2's just been release hasn't it?

Don't know much about this but it certainly looks impressive.

I'm hoping you know a bit more about this than I do. And because of that I'll just fire off some quick questions... Is it just a pretty face? Will it get a western release? And if so, does localisation take forever?

Cheers.

Hasn`t it been released in Japan a few months ago ? There`s also a couple demos on the Jap store for quite some time.
Maybe the new screens are a sign that a western release is not that far off.

I don't know if this will get a worldwide release.
If it is a huge budget title, It will be released worldwide probably.

Anyone got Yakuza 2? I played 4 hours and so far it is a bit story heavy and not so much freedom, but I guess that will improve quite a lot. I played Yakuza 1 (龍が如く!) in japanese, but it was a bit to text-heavy for me. With the jap voices and english text 2 is much more fun for me.....

Edit: I should also say that I play on a PS3 with a GS (eruo 60BB) and it has worked perfectly so far.

Gamevideos has a very insightfull review and it seems the reviewers are convinced that they want more of Yakuza and the spin off to be brought over to the states.

I also read a review on Play magazine about Ryu Ga Gotoku Kenzan! aka the spinoff on PS3 where they were very surprised at how complete the game was and how they also wished for a States release, despite being set in historical Japan.

I have never played Yakuza games before. I assume it is an Action RPG game ? It looks superb and exciting enough for me to short list it (pole dancer 8^O...).

Its...its....like the good old Sega of the DC days....its as if I am looking at the greatness that was Shenmue back then....Awesome!! I hope it proves to be a great game too :D

(Hmm.... Okinawa, US military base, mafias, lounge hostesses, beaches, stealth bomber, casino, baseball, mahjong, ..., everything under the Sun).

People keep comparing those two but the Yakuza games as GAMES are so far superior it's not even funny, everything from controls, to combat, to characters, to just streamlining things enough to make things enjoyable, that's something that the shenmue series never had.

True, it's Shenmue done right. But it's just hard to explain; it's an RPG, mostly, with random battles, but the 'free-world' parts are remind me a lot of Shenmue, I don't know what else to compare it to.

I like who you learn new moves by capturing it on your cellphone. We need a english subbed version so we can workout all the new stuff.

(in addition to yours)

Bowling
Darts
Gambling
Fight Training/sparing
Real life product brands?? (saw pepsi in the footage of vending machines)

I just wish they'd do a better walk cycle. Looks like he's got something stuff up his ass... too rigid.

Okay, that's what the cellphone sequence was about. I was scratching my head with that one.

And some sort of daycare/child care/orphanage in the game ?

Heh. Praying they have different walk cycle for the women and kids in the game. Otherwise the whole city will look like zombie town.

You could compare it to a Shenmue that left the house to make it in the big city and along the way became an adult.

PS: its important to note how Yakuza 1 was handled:

On production...

and on reviews

I am not sure how it sold but it would have had to depend in how the game where the main characters being Asian would have appealed to the western audience in the US even though you take into account the diversity.

And comparisons to GTA series were also made and unfortunately did not help the first game.

So far only one US reviewer has bothered to do a video review on Yakuza 2 (1UP):

...and outside of previews Kenzan! is not really getting that much coverage so I don't know what to make of whats going to happen down the road when Sega of America has to decide whether to approve localizing Kenzan or 3 or both or neither.
