Xenos not from TSMC?

while It is *possible* that IBM will be fabbing Xenos GPUs for Xbox 360, (since IBM has fabbed GPUs for Nvidia and maybe other companies) my guess is, it's a mistake by the author(s) of that article.

IBM will certainly manufacture the triple-core CPU that goes by the name XENON and Waternoose.

the graphics chip manufacturing is most likely STILL being done at TSMC and NEC.

The GPU being fabbed by IBM is a very real possibility. It was hinted at in a March 30th 2005 article.

Jelinek hinted that there is a "big guy" in the graphics processor space that has been working with Chartered and IBM that has not yet been announced as a customer.

Would be suprised if East Fishkill is making Xenos as it'll probably be near capacity in H2 with Cell for Sony and Toshiba.

Plus you'd think ATi might have wanted to leverage experience using TSMC's 90nm node for their desktop roadmap.

Sony, Toshiba (through the joint fab), and IBM will all be fabbing Cells.

Nagasaki will be PS3's primary source I imagine once production there begins.

Ah, I was under the impression that only IBM would be producing them initially (and therefore you'd expect East Fishkill to be choka).

Well yeah, that will be the case - initially. And I do in fact expect East Fishkill to be worked to it's limit before the PS3 launch. Nagasaki will be the primary source of PS3 Cell's though, at 65nm, once it finally kicks into gear. (whenever that is - probably early next year)

Most likely . THe question is when . Ibm is fabbing alot of stuff right now . I don't think they will have a whole fab dedicated to cells . Same goes with tobhiba .

Hopefully the new plant comes on line shortly after launch so sony can devote it to cell and rsx

I am looking forward to seeing a picture of the xenos cpu.

all the normal reasons on this one.
Um, do you mean Xenos GPU or Xenon CPU? I'm guessing the latter, as the former has been front-paged for a while.

That makes no sense.

If IBM is doing the CPU and the parent die from GPU, and NEC the rest of the GPU, what the hell is doing TSCM :?:
Wait ,I know it is the...PPU (runs very fast before get flamed by the others members).

Now a bit more serios, can anyone answer.

IBM = CPU

TSMC = chipset and GPU (primary)

NEC = eDRAM

Generally the TriCore XBox360 CPU is known as "XENON" and the Dual Module GPU is known as "XENOS"... at least these are the PR friendly names that seemed to have developed. The working name for XENOS was C1 and the working name for XENON was "Waternoose".
Xenos was the working name, not just for marketing. C1 was the name before there was a name. Xenon is the code name for the entire console. I'm not sure if Microsoft also uses that name to refer to the CPU. If so I'd guess marketing came up with that "brilliant" idea. Confusing if you ask me.

Xbox 360 naming

console: 'Xenon' and 'Xbox 360'

tri-core CPU: 'Xenon' and 'Waternoose'

GPU: R500 (unofficial), C1 and 'Xenos'

main shader-core part of the GPU: 'parent'

eDRAM unit with additional logic: 'daughter'

(C1 or Xenos = parent+daughter)
