Should have at least designed the hood/top so that it'd look like an actual air intake for the fan's airflow. Bonus points if they used APUs with higher overclocked GPU to justify such a monstrosity (never happening) plus matching loud fan.

Thanks for the information. I just installed a firmware update for my TV to enable HDR10, so having access to the work-arounds in the reddit post referenced in the article will be useful for me. Hopefully they get the issues straightened out soon.

Google announced Chromecast Ultra today. I guess it is a 4k streamer stick with HDR for $69.

Nerfs some of the appeal of Xbox S anyway. Although $69 isn't a disposable price point.

Edit: Roku also has a 4k/HDR capable streamer for $100.

I just assumed that 4k/hdr tvs had apps that could stream anyway.
thereby that was a nice plus, a sum of it's parts type feature.

This console just grows on me...it seems like the simplicity of the design and matte plastic allows it to pull of different colors really well.

Seems like Microsoft has found a manufacturer that can do these paint/plastic coloring at a high quality with the custom controllers and now with this console.

Depending on the smart platform the TV is using, app updates can take a while (if they even come at all). My TV can stream Netflix in 4K, but can't do HDR.

I like the new direction with how Microsoft are marketing their console. It looks like they've allowed the marketing department free rein to try different things to boost the visibility of the console.

Considering how Xbox is considered the platform to play Minecraft on by children, that packaging will only reinforce that. I mean what child won't be absolutely delighted to have that packaging to play around with when they aren't allowed on the console itself by their parents?

I believe that one of the best XB1 slim selling is that it looks good, a lot better than the PS4 or the PS4 slim. It is a relatively minor thing for geeks but for the average customer I would not discard that consideration.
